For reasons not related to boxing, why is Mike Tyson loved and Mayweather hated?

Naw...if it would've been a slug fest..they would've said that.

No one mad he won(simple minded ***** keep turning it into that), they're mad HOW he won.

It was a boring *** fight. ALL that hype..for that.

Boxing wants another Mike Tyson.

Check the Jim Lampley monolouge from last night.

Also USA today has an interview that pretty much says the same thing..

“For all of the advertising and promotions to have continued to base itself on the notion that this was the fight of the century and the best combat that boxing could offer. To fans and uninitiated fans who only know a little about boxing and see it from the surface level buy in at the level in which they bought in are bound to feel somewhat cheated today. I just really think it’s highly unfortunate for our sport, I think it’s bad for Pacquiao’s image and taints his great and noble career, and I could go on and on about the ways in which this is unfortunate for boxing and for the audience. I can’t imagine, even under these circumstances, that a rematch would illicit anything other than an embarrassing response compared to what they got the other night.”

All these clowns keep talking about they want to see Mike Tyson knock out action.

Ummmm its called Heavyweight class...why would you even watch a Mayweather fight??????

I swear some sports fanatics are really ******ed....

The number of bets in mannys favor outnumbered floyds 2 to 1 doe

Even with Vegas having Floyd as a 2 to 1 favorite.

The better question is why are yall so quick to defend this dude?

It's not even defending him, it's just calling out the same behavior you notice with critics of Freddie Gray and Trayvon Martin, or even Pres. Obama. He doesn't deserve human treatment because he's done this and that, while someone of a different shade isn't pressed with the same criticism. We don't even have to get into wrong or right, just putting what we observe on display. I dont understand the constant opposition to that and deflection. From hoodlum to high to priest, it's clear to see if you are black in this country the treatment is different. But no, let's ignore that and deflect.

Would you bet against the sun coming up tomorrow?

Talking about playing the odds.

Your example is completely off

Pay outs on bets are worth much more if the odds stack against you. That's why people bet on manny.

Tyson opening up about his terrible childhood, and admitting to his mistakes has made him into a sympathetic figure.

Part of it boxing related though.  Not only is he rich, arrogant, black and a woman beater.  But he also fights in a style that some of his critics describe as "cowardly".

He's a little bit like a modern day Jack Johnson.

THIS.. Jack Johnson made money showed it off and screwed white women.. They had to pass a federal law to slow him down .. the Mann act..

mayweather is this minus the mann act.. He owns everything

Very true. However I am assuming education isn't a priority for that family.

So an athlete can murder, be racist, deal drugs, cheat on their wives, beat women... all activities considered immoral/unlawful in a civilized society and the public isn't suppose to care? Then why did Aaron Hernandez get cut from the Patriots? Why did Kobe do a news conference crying about cheating on Vanessa? Why did Ray Rice get suspended indefinitely? Why did Donald Sterling get ousted? If you're a public figure, you're question for every single twit, outburst, crime, etc. That's the price of fame.
Honestly, I do not care. That's just me. You baby these athletes their whole lives and give them special treatment and expect them to understand how regular life works? When you have special talents you play by different rules. I didn't make those rules, tis is life. So, while a bit extreme with examples of rape and murder, I feel for the most part athletes should get special treatment. I have no moral compass though.

I would say...

1. Redemption story.

People like comeback stories, stories of redemption. A lot of the positive public sentiment comes from the idea that Tyson has changed his life and redeemed him self from his past actions. Mayweather is 48-0 he's never lost, he has faced limited amounts of punishment for domestic violence which he refuses to acknowledge.

2. Defiance.

Tyson is no longer defiant. He is completely willing to face up to his public failings for the most part and he'sno longer fighting so he can't defy your expectations on the field of play. Mayweather on the other hand is the textbook definition of defiant a quality that america hates especially in black men.

3. Media Relations.

Writers love Tyson, he's just an interesting cultural character, his history back story, physical stature, voice. He's a bundle of contradictions that is ripe for narrative building for writers. If you interview him you are likely to got a lot of good interesting authentic sounding quotes. With Mayweather it's about control and manipulating the media to create a narrative, ducking questions and spinning them back to your talking points. The media hates that.

4. Cultural Climate.

The issues surrounding Violence against women have reached a tipping point. and there is less tolerance than ever for it. Tysons issues exist in the distant past, Mayweathers issues are more recent and his responses when questioned are complete doges.

Thats my guess...

this is it.. Also late on this discussion but Lebron decision special was wack because he took a hour of espn's time to **** on his hometown. Not bc he was black

How?

If you bet against the sun raising, the odds are stacked against you. Its a stupid bet, just like betting against Mayweather.

The sun rising and sport winners aren't even remotely comparable but if you believe that you got it bro

I shouldn't even have to explain why either
