Who's the NBA's next megastar in around 5 years?

Curry is almost too old to be the face of the NBA after Bron. When Bron is 35 and declining, Curry will already be 32.

It's Davis. Wiggins. Maybe Simmons. That's too early to tell.

I agree. And, I mean, what are we talking about here exactly? Megastar to me is being the head and shoulders best in the game. Steph is phenomenal, but is he really a Jordan/Lebron caliber guy? I think it's a fine line. Superstar? Undoubtedly. Megastar (aka easily recognizable as the best in the game)? Not so sure.

I still think the smart money is on AD, but a guy like Wiggins -- if he can project to what people want him to be -- has a chance as well. He's got a long way to go though and needs to improve at the pace of a Anthony Davis in order to even be thought of on a level like that.

osh kosh bosh osh kosh bosh will tell that the way Minnesota is already using him, he'll be run into the ground before long and we'll get robbed of even having that discussion.

Durant and Davis
Durant is a great choice too, but he's not winning right now and at some point, you'd think he'd have to start winning some rings. He'll basically need to wrestle out Lebron at this point in order to take his place, but when, if ever, will that happen?

When he joins Okafor, Randle, Clarkson, and whichever 2015 FA we sign, in LA in 2016.

Feel like Durant is already at that level. Yeah he hasn't won anything, but he's as notorious as LeBron and Kobe. His recent injuries are the only things that might not give him that megastar appeal at the moment.

Yeah...Well, all I can do to that is

or perhaps give it the Alonzo gif. It would probably be smart for him to do that.

I agree...He has the talent for sure....But one of my stipulations is winning rings. Multiple. Maybe that's unfair or unrealistic given that we grew up with Jordan, Kobe and now Lebron, but megastar to me is more than just a cut above the rest and one of the means of separation along with being the best of the best in the game...Is the jewelry.

Yeah I'd say KD is already at that level. Wasn't he 2nd in earning this year after Bron and his KD kicks have made a killing lately. He already has plenty of endorsements, all he's missing is to make the jump to the big screen in bad movies

His star would probably be even brighter if he ended up going home to DC

The jewelry thing is definitely fair. KD will get his soon enough. Just might be with the Lakers, right CP  :nerd:

We don't know who is going to have rings in 5 years.

But in 5 years, he will be the best wing player in the league and probably the highest earner. If this thread is about new guys then omit Durant.

I think there is two lines of thinking and your post highlights it. I don't really take into account endorsements and total earnings. That's more of a face-of-the-NBA thing and to me, that and being a megastart aren't interchangeable.

Nothing wrong with this, I'm just clarifying that I think we all have are own ideas on what a megastar is. I feel like once you're a megastar the endorsements follow and that all takes care of itself, regardless if the volume of endorsements was there from the get-go or after the fact. There have been a lot of potential megastars who received many endorsements with these companies banking on that same concept, but in the end, while still being marketable (or maybe not even), they aren't to the Jordan/Kobe/Lebron level. Does that make sense?

Wiggins i think might get to DRose, Carmelo Anthony level of superstar player but I think he will fall short of that Lebron, Anthony Davis, young Dwight Howard, Durant, CP3 tier.

Harden - IF he gets the Rockets into championship form. Something about their run didn't seem legit. And he has to get past KD and Russ.

Wall - If he can hit the mid range consecutively.

AD - He has it all. I can't imagine him not being the next star.

AD but I don't think its gonna take 5 years, I'm thinking closer to 3.

Yeah I don't get that. If you're going to put Melo and Pooh on one level, CP3 needs to be there with them.

Keep this in the CP0 circle jerk thread.

Also no mention of Kobe

Are you serious? He threw out a few examples. He didn't mention Shaq, Duncan, KG, Dirk, Wade etc etc etc either.

You Kobe fans are something else.

Harden is a superstar, but I won't say he's mega.

Same with Wall, but a notch below Harden. So, just a star.
