Thoughts on the confederate flag

I went to church this sunday for father day and the pastor had a lot to say on it.

He was saying that objects like the confederate flag, monuments and naming streets after confederate generals is a type of memorial. They are symbolic objects to remember the people and their ideology. So because the south lost the war doesnt mean they changed their ideology on black people as is evident up to today.  So white people have to own the fact that these flags and statues are in remembrance of racist ideologies and take them down to stop normalizing the ideas the confederate states represented.

Confederate Flag = White Supremacy Flag

Of course there a exceptions but more often than not there's a white supremacist(or uncle tom) waving hold the confederate flag high.

I'm just glad Obama finally kept it real. Thought he didn't have it in him but I guess he finally has had enough

For some it's a southern pride thing, for others it's a "Hurr durr **** them *******" thing, for many it's both. Either way it's just a flag.

There's a huge confederate flag being flown over on the side of I-75 here in Florida just outside of Tampa. It's huge, can't even miss it. My thoughts personally are that its a symbol of the civil war and how the north won.

call me wrong, but as soon as I see that flag, the first thing that comes to my mind is racism.

exactly how I feel, I saw some dude with one tattoo'ed on the back of his neck when I was out for a run and instantly just assumed the dude was a piece of garbage

Same... saw a dude in a pickup truck in Georgia with the flag on the back of his truck, I already knew he was trash.

When I see it nothing really comes to mind.

To be honest. Can't pretend I grew up experiencing harsh racism or people waving that flag in face to try to prove a point. As much as I wanna ACT like I really been through it, I can't sit here and say it really means anything to me. Good or bad.

But of course everyone knows what it stood for in the past and that's bad blah blah

Yes I'm black
you don't have to experience anything to understand what it stood for or what it stands for.  your docile undertone is disgusting to me. the whole attitude of "they didn't do it to me so i don't care" really shows your age or maturity.

Man I see white dudes all the time riding around with the flag on their truck...

Never in my life have I ever seen a black person flying it, but I have seen a few Mexicians, which I find HIL-LAR-RE-US everytime.

i don't know what it is about crappy pickup trucks and confederate flags but they seem to go hand in hand.

NASCAR is commercialized these days but those fans still exist

I was at a NHRA race yesterday and saw a few dudes with confederate flag shirts :smh:
