Thoughts on the confederate flag

Joe Morton (Olivia Pope's father on Scandal) came through with that ether on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore last night. Someone just posted the clip on FB and I had to see if it was posted already in here and I didn't see anything, so I thought I would share it.

 
This thread is about the confederate flag being taken down. No one is saying it's going to solve problems and this and that. It's just a simple small task that is a step in the right direction. Nothing more not big less.

I don't know where all these Fox News sounding dudes come in here bringing up black on black crime and another nonsense.

Let's talk about the thread topic and leave it at the.
 
You know there's derailment sooner or later. 

But on some real ****, I want to know what some white people talk about at the crib. These thoughts are passed down from generation to generation, and I know they don't run into it on the internet and then become hardcore with it. 

It has to start from a young age, because my parents never mentioned or talked negatively about white people. It was never hate being thrown at a white person or any other race for that matter. 

We chill for the most part. Laugh at some shows, talk about friends or family. 

It seems like it some extra plotting going on that we don't seem to be aware of. 

When they say keep it in the family, I think some of that means viewpoints of bigotry that eventually manifest in life. 

It's some funny stuff going on that we don't know about.

I was just at Monticello a few weeks ago. 

One of two black men doing the slave tour. The other black people in the group left. 
 
I have missed a lot of the recent discussion but my opinion is
1. This flag should have never been apart of anything government from the day the south loss.
2. These businesses taking the flags off their shelves and advertising it is corny and fake to me. If yall really cared you would have never sold the items in the first place, but now it's trending so you decide to take it down.
3. These idiots who hide behind the whole "but the flag wasn't racist, it's all about pride" seriously shut the hell up. You know damn well the main reason for the civil war had to do with slavery
 
I can't watch the video but I'm sure he makes no valid point. Being in college means you're on your way to being educated, not that you're already there.

Lol, slaves only fought for the confederates because they were promised freedom. But of course the majority were thrown on the front line and the first to die.

And those that did survive definitely didn't see a pension. What is the pension for a slave coming from his oppressor, "you can keep the clothes and the gun you fought with?"
 
Man I watched Glory for like 2 hours, and then at the end dudes just got on the front line to get blasted away.

Why do you care about white people "liking" you? Them accepting you is a reward to your psyche? You've already lost, if you need validation from others. I could care less whether they like us or not. Your way of thinking leads me to believe that you feel inferior to them :lol: :lol: :rofl:

Looks like you took his post the most literal way possible. I swear Comp and Lit were left out of people's school curriculum the way context is overlooked around here
 
That flag has always been racist and pretty means you want slaves back to me. I can only really remember seeing it when I went to busch (?) gardens in FL. Some redneck looking kids had them on. Thankfully I don't see that in NYC much.

Not sure why it was tolerated for so long maybe because of our freedom of speech.

And yes, I am going to take it literal because you sounded like a whimp, even wording it that way. The thought should not come into your mind about someone liking you. Especially if there's a clear presence of hatred.

The both of you appear to not know how to use context clues. Guessing you each needed superlatives in High School to feel complete? Either way, we've had the ability to make a change as a group, but it's people with your ideologies who are taking up precious oxygen. I live in the South. I've visited the midwest, eastcoast, and west. This flag controversy has gone on for over half a century. People who have been oblivious in the past are concerned all of sudden? Why? "Fake caring" because it's a headline issue, when we have issues that set us up worse, well before this.

I can't stand people such as yourselves, who only open your eyes when a situation makes headlines. Because lowly individuals like you guys, ignored it, in the past. Go reflect on being needed to be told, when to address something, instead of using your own intuition.
 
bruh.... What I was implying  has nothing to do about the yearning of the white man's love or validation, you can continue to build those straw men for as long as you want though, I really dont care.

but like you and your simple mindedness keep acting as if this situation and the progress of the black community are mutually exclusive.

As if commenting on this situation is withholding anyone from continuing  to build internally.
