RIP New York Hip-Hop? (Need Some Feedback)

Only in this thread...is monetizing mixtapes a bad idea . Mixtapes = low cost. They are getting returns on a low cost product.

The thought on mixtapes USED to be, flood the streets with your mixtapes. Build up fan base. Recoup the profits later on tours and songs etc from said mixtapes. Use fan base from mixtapes & singles to release album when ready. Almost like giving testers, and have em come back for your full course meal.

Now, people are paying for thug's "testers" multiple times a year.....at a rate that is = to/more than some established artists full course meals. I mean, imagine if Future sold...Monster, Beast Mode & 56 nights back to back to back.

Thug is also currently on the #33 song in the country right now (and rising)......."No Limit" by usher. He's doing alright. Could be better though.

I will agree that the label isn't yet confident in a full length thug project. He doesn't have a mixtape that you can hold up and say...THIS is the project you should check. Just loose singles here and there. This is all part of the process:

-gauge interest
-monetize on a low cost project
-build fanbase.

Business wise, it's smart as hell.

Only because producers are getting short changed these days.

A lot of mixtapes are getting spins and streamed as albums, but the producer is only getting the upfront money and some aren't even getting that. They're just getting a look and are happy to get placement.

Dudes are getting radio and touring off it.

I ain't know thug album sales was such a serious topic  , ain't expect him to sell that much so around 40k total sounds bout right

It's cause his fans would have you believing he's as popular as Drake, and if you don't feel him, you "just don't understand his genius" and "Lyor has it in for him".

They don't even promote these "albums".

Putting out all these tapes as albums means nothing when you're signed to somebody else's label. Thug ain't business savy at all. His label is playing him.

please ignore the YM falloff but Desiigner is legitimately proving that he may not be going anywhere for awhile

Desiigner won't flourish until the style of beats he hops on changes. His voice naturally sounds like Futures but he fails when he tries to imitate Futures cadence and beat choices.

He'll be a problem in 3 years when he's 21 and more experienced and the beats he's being given hopefully changes.

Or we could never hear of him after December

Don't see him moving anytime soon based off melodies alone.... i have no clue how that wasn't a Pusha verse on there instead of Tyga

He's on GOOD music, Kanye is gonna tack him on every song and make you hear him whether you like it or not

Just heard Desiigner got booked for a loaded tone (in NYC) and some oxys.....

I can't stand the lil *****, but not like this mane :smh:. Smh

Up and coming NY rappers always get taken by the law or the streets before their time to shine

Nah, he still trash. He still tryna bite Future. Sounds like a fake version of Rotation.

The legal **** is unfortunate though.
