SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has launched a formal investigation after the release of a video Friday night showing deputies beating a man with batons in San Francisco’s Mission District.

The video, released by the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office on Twitter around 5:30 p.m. Friday, shows two deputies striking a man on the ground repeatedly with batons after a pursuit.

In a subsequent tweet the public defender’s office describes the video as “shocking and brutal.” The caption on the 13-minute video states that it comes from surveillance cameras that record in 10-second increments with gaps in between, “So the beating was actually twice as long as what is shown.”

They thought they weren't on camera, there goes the "He reached for my gun" narrative

This police profiling thing is real, it's gonna come to a head soon tho, I can feel something big coming out of this in the near future....

I hope the lawyers drain that city. Get a BIIIIIIIIGGG payday.

Fire the cops involved, prosecute them...to include those that covered it up.

The pursuit of Mr. Petrov began early Thursday morning, when he was found with a stolen car, Sergeant Nelson said. Mr. Petrov crashed the vehicle into two patrol cars and knocked down a deputy, Sergeant Nelson said. He then led deputies on a 40-minute chase from San Leandro through Oakland into San Francisco, where he hit a parked car and tried to flee on foot. That was where the video picked up, just before deputies tackled him about 1:30 a.m.

Too many people only look at one side of the story and don't bother doing some research into all the facts first

Sadly the stupidity isn't even surprising anymore.

You do realize that this isn't what the law says, right?

I get that YOU don't care, career criminal, blah, blah, blah.  But there is no law that says fleeing police = minute long beatdown when you're clearly subdued and submissive.  Hence why police brutality cases are a real thing.

Cops aren't here to give people what they deserve.  They're here to apprehend suspects with the option to use physical force when necessary.  These dudes clearly went overboard with the physical force.
