True Life: I'm homeless

goodluck OP. gym membership cost seems a little high but good for a situation like this.

Check to see if its legal to sleep in your car on some streets. Over here its illegal.

Car charger.

Food. Fast food usually have surveys that can get you more food for cheap. Not the healthiest but youll be fed.

Get a bat/weapon.

GL OPEE.

I hate the place, but Wal-Mart is actually really good for this. They often have cameras in their lots, lights, outlets that are free to use, and they typically allow RVs to spend the night in their lots anyways. There might not be one in your area, but its worth a shot.

have heard similar...found this site that lists the ones where you can't sleep...
"Use the guide below or get the app and always have it with you.
This is a list based on the daily visitor reports we get here and in the apps and signage. There are probably many more locations that do not allow overnight parking. Always ask ahead of time with a store manager to be safe. You don't want to get evicted during the night. Please contact me with any contradictory information you find. It helps this report be more accurate for you in the future"

wish u the best op

im interested in why you cant currently do a temporary relocation :nerd:

Sounds like some legal trouble...so peace of mind and safety should be something to worry about.

Cancel that gym membership and find a motel for $200 or less/spare room to rent. Being cold and bothered by people or cops would just add to the difficult time.

damn bruh I hate it came to this for ya. I hope it's not too ignorant a question, but......what about a shelter or a police station?

if you have no choice but to stay in the car, I would suggest parking at a police station

Why can't u leave MD for now..u should go to NY just to get situated..
Lets just say staying in MD for now would benefit me in the long run.

I feel for you, and I hope everything works itself out quickly so you aren't on the streets long. I unfortunately have experience with this, here are some tips:

1. Stock up on clean underwear, wool socks, longjohns, gloves, and hats. Losing a glove typically means a minor inconveinence, but in this situation losing a glove might mean frostbite or worse. Make sure you have some extras to fall back on. This is incredibly important if you live in a cold winter state like Minnesota, as people freeze to death here every winter.

2. Find a safe spot to park at nights. People know about and target others who sleep in their cars because they make for easy targets. Places like hotels typically tour their lots at night to make sure people aren't sleeping in cars and will not hesitate to wake you up at 3:30AM to make you move. I hate the place, but Wal-Mart is actually really good for this. They often have cameras in their lots, lights, outlets that are free to use, and they typically allow RVs to spend the night in their lots anyways. There might not be one in your area, but its worth a shot.

3. Don't be afraid to reach out to others that are in the same situation you're in. You'll probably run into other people who are in similar circumstances just by virtue of going through the same thing. Homelessness happens a lot more often (and more frequently) than a lot of people realize. It's nothing to be ashamed about if you are a victim of circumstance. Just pick up the pieces and try to prevent it in the future. The people you meet will know where to warm up, where to go to get materials, etc. Be cautious and don't put your blind trust into people, but don't cut yourself off completely.

Good advice. There are a few 24hr walmarts I could visit. Probably catch a snooze in the bathroom stall if its too cold.

I know alot of you are wondering whats going on. Yes its legal trouble. No I didnt kill or harm anyone. No I dont sell drugs. I cant go into detail but lets just say some people were out to get me because I decided to try and help someone else get their life straight.

I know we've got hella NTers in that area. Someone give this man a little help! Yeah it's kind of awkward to meet internet dudes in real life, but with reach of NT fam there's no reason dude should be sleeping in a car every night in the winter.

Stay up OP....things will get better in time.

I'm assuming you caught a felony?

Only thing that can bring a man down pretty quick...you've always seemed like a cool dude over the years so hopefully you can bounce back

My biggest fear as a black man is getting a felony or any type of legal trouble. Makes the road longer for us because there isn't many black owned corporations that will take a chance on us. I've seen other felons bounce back quick because of privilege

Man screw the corporate politics OP. Everyone knows I was just like you and still not quite where I want to be. I've slept in my camaro a few times. What I did was sell/pawn all my jewelry, game systems, shoes, clothes and anything valuable/materialistic except my guns. I then pulled all the money out of my bank accounts; I strongly recommend you do that immediately before the recurring payments hit. I don't give a damb if all you have is $10.00 in your account. Go to walmart buy some gum and get cash back. Cash will be like your baby while you're on the come up. (I still cry every time I spend a dollar). Find a truck stop, the truckers will usually barter with you if you have anything. Next you'll meet lot lizards, they will help you. I've stayed with some for exchange of rides and security. By you having a car they will appreciate you. Work out a deal with them and they will give you a percentage for every trip, save all the cash you can. For food I ate off the dollar menus as well as buy sandwich meat, bread, and a case of water. Use your time wisely; I was at the library every morning filling out apps; sometimes until closing. I even slept in the library parking lot throughout the day. Conserve your gas!!! Layer up and always keep a skull cap on your head. Don't get depressed, always know that a better day is around the corner. If you do get depressed smoke a lil herb, but definitely no Alcohol !!! Keep your head up and protect your neck. You're not the only one going through this trust me. Lastly check with the motels and see if they need help cleaning rooms or taking out trash in exchange for a place to lay your head for a few hours or money.

I don't believe in well wishes without a solution because I was homeless too, so pm me if you ever need someone to chat with. I'm rooting for you man and you will make it. Now let's grind and make it happen.
