AUNT VIV IS MAD VOL......oscars

Yea but she been going to the oscars for 10+ years with no issue. Smiling rubbing elbows with white Hollywood. Now that her career on the back burner she wants everyone to wake up all of a sudden. She want young black actors to risk getting blackballed and possibly miss out on future opportunities to stand alongside with her and will

I see right through that bs
But she didn't call for others to join her in not attending. I'm not sure where your getting that info from.

People are feeling like it was implied.

All she said was that black hollywood needs to pull their collective resources together and invest in our own in regards to awards and celebrations.

That being said, we have 3 black-ethnic centric TV stations (TVOne, BET and Centric which the latter two are owned by Viacom). At the very least, they can invest more into TVOne and the NAACP Image Awards and the Soul Train Awards and bring those to prominence.

She seems pretty butt hurt. I'm sure Jada and she have a lot of $$ at this point. I can see if she was still acting but she hasn't in many years. Sounds like she's still hurt from Fresh Prince. Light skinned Viv >Whiney Aunt Viv. Wish I knew the backstory behind the Fresh Prince controversy though.

In so many words she said she want black people to stop showing up at awards shows....
mainly because most blacks say that we prop up the awards show that doesnt really represent us..

I think Straight outta compton should win an oscar..thats all.

If will smith would have gotten nominated Jada " All Lives Matter" Pinkett would've had nothing to say

That's not true at all. She's not upset solely because Will was not nominated , she's upset because numerous people of color got severely overlooked for the work they put in. Let's see.....

Idris Elba was criminally overlooked for best supporting Actor for Beast of No Nation

Abraham Attah was overlooked for his performance in Beasts of No Nation

Ryan Coogler was overlooked for best director for Creed

I could make a case that Michael B Jordan was overlooked for Creed

Creed should have been nominated for Best Picture

Straight out of Compton should at the very least been nominated for Best Picture

Will Smith in Concussion is debatable ( movie was average , but his performance was Oscar worthy)

Star Wars should have been nominated for Best Picture

Oscar Issac should have been nominated over Tom Hardy ( even tho that's ma boy) for Ex Machina

See You Again should have been nominated for best Original Song ( no Question )

And lastly , Benico Del Toro was severly overlooked for her performance in Secario
All of this. Lets not have a kneejerk reraction because we're pushing back against all the sensitivity. There are still issues that matter.

Which isn't a crazy statement, considering both the Oscars and the Grammys have a history of snubbing black artists. I don't think that's even debatable.

When someone speaks up, why is our first reaction to shun and outcast them? Why don't we take a look at the trends and facts logically? Do people expect black artists not to eventually push back against these awards?

Facts!!! Crabs in a barrel. There's no other explanation I can think of at this point.

Regardless, Jada does indeed have a point that there's not many blacks recognized. But all these award shows (Grammy's, Oscar's, Golden Globe's, etc) are all fixed anyway.

People are more pissed as folks calling out ******** for what it is instead of the actuall Bull **** itself :smh:

No, she wants people to be more aware of the process and problem.

If she wanted a boycott, she would have just called for a boycott.

The main problem is why do we need their validation

At a certain point, why do we care if we get nominated or win Grammy's or Oscar's. This isn't anything new. We developed BET and Soul Train awards, because their system wasn't designed to reflect and represent us.

I do find it funny Sylvester Stallone can be nominated, but not the film or Ryan Cogler, but it's a good ol boys network.

I'm of two minds on this statement:

1.) Part of me feels like its not about validation , but rather people receiving their due for the work they put in. I think it would be a cop out just to dismiss these constant snubs as acquiescing to the current flawed system. If Blacks in the entertainment industry have to adhere to the same rules in their craft then they should receive the same acclaim for the work they do , just like their counterparts.

2.) The other part of me just wants to say eff it and let them do what they always do.

I also hate how this is a either or side.

Both Jada and Aunt Bitter had valid points. And that will be lost, because it looks like just another social media beef.

i get the whole boycott, but these actors are so willing to accept the paychecks from hollywood when its their time
in the end its a popularity contest and people paying for these awards

oscar meyer weiner with relish

You'd be surprised how much of a difference winning a Grammy or an Oscar can make in an artists career. It's a bargaining chip and I'm sure it has a big impact on your earning power.
