NT OFFICIAL SUSHI APPRECIATION THREAD

I love sushi

I am always a fan of the Spider Roll when it's just a run of the mill place or grocery store

If she farts, everyone would know it. No filter on that ***.
I'd be like, "you go first, breh":

I gotta try the eel. I'm gonna do it this week maybe. But for me, I think California rolls will forever be GOAT.
Sounds like you're just getting into sushi. Cal rolls, and variations are the usual "gateway drug". Where are you located? I would suggest finding a GOOD a.y.c.e. place 1st. So that you can sample some REAL things, such as nigiri, and sashimi. You'll never look back after that. And probably will stop messin with California rolls. Then when you really got a palate for authentic sushi, drop some cash on a premium Omakase experience. Good luck.

Yeah my wife finally got me to give it a try...I've been hooked! She says the same thing, but I'm kinda shook of that raw life. I'm getting there though.

True story

Used to be In N Out, Roscoe's etc. Trying to expand my horizons now.

Did Free Range + Eggslut last time.

I'm putting in WORK regardless.

I eat sushi at least twice a month. Never had food poisoning. Blood levels are fine. Eating raw fish shouldn't worry you too much. It's U.S health code to freeze the fish for a week before serving.

I did not know this.

I thought the "goal" was to have the freshest sushi.

I was surprised too. I only know this because I looked up on buying sushi grade fish.

"Food and Drug Administration regulations stipulate that fish to be eaten raw -- whether as sushi, sashimi, seviche, or tartare -- must be frozen first, to kill parasites"

An extremely great documentary is Jiro Dreams of Sushi. He explains how fresh fish has no taste. It's more about the rice being perfect. It's master level sushi making. Highly recommend it. It's on netflix.

Kumo is a chill spot, not too far from the Highline. You could have some sushi and a nice stroll afterwards, if it's nice out.

Kiku is a another spot, it's all you can eat for about $30 bucks.

You wanna ball out for Valentine's Day go to Nobu.

Keyword is ball out  .

frozen is not fresh. look it up. in japan, they prep it fresh. i cant understand how they can stomache the raw consumption though.

I remember on that Jiro movie one of the chefs gets to the fish market way later than everyone else. He just got what was left after the early people got their stuff and also said the rice was the most important. I'm Asian but don't really care or notice how the rice is in sushi. As long as rice isn't crunchy then I like it.
