What happened to Delonte West? Mental disorders are a scary thing

Should the NBA take care of players that were dropped/cut?

Wouldnt that be like being let go from a job?

When he applied for home depot during thee lockout, I thought dude just had a strong work ethic and was stacking bread. Hope he gets the help he needs.

Just like someone commented on the picture... dude made $16 Million from NBA.

Makes you think, what's considered "broke" for former professional players and/or former celebrities.
I don't think homie is proposing to his girl with jump rope pieces and having his kids sleep in the cold while he's Allen Iverson "broke" with millions in the bank.

This guy probably had all kinds of help over the years from teammates, owners, agents, family and friends but blew it with each and everyone of em due to his illness, or because he was on drugs. Oh well I say.. not going to feel sorry for each and every former athlete that falls on hard times. What's next? Go fund me pages for Titus Young or Joseph Randle?

Would be interesting to hear if any teams knew about his mental illness. Not saying they should be liable, but was he offered help or some consulting. I'm sure the team did some homework on him.

I think he tried to deny it for a while and it was after his playing career he started to acknowledge it

You're acting like people choose to be mentally ill.

Like you're above it happening to you.

No need to look down on him...just be thankful you woke up today in your right mind.

In a socialistic society, there should be no excuses about "help". Time for these guys to just owe up to their decisions. Poor decision making doesn‘t equate to mental disorders either. People always blaming someone.

Probably a lot more complicated than asking people with mental disorders if they need help.

Right, but you can definitely reach out to an employee (even former) when they're exhibiting mental health issues.

Stage an intervention, hire a chaperone, something....Just calling and visiting an individual who clearly needs help can show that individual that they have people in their corner.

He was diagnosed with mental disorders before the "socialistic society" took off.

Dude even told his wife "brain ain't working right" .. clearly he's owning up to it.

That's easy to say, maybe in his mind he's good. I mean he went to college, and got drafted. Maybe the same things that made him excel at basketball was his downfall in his personal life. Most people don't or can't admit they have mental illness. Nobody wants to be labeled "crazy"

basketball was probably his outlet from the disease and as it got so big, he started to slide and now you see where he is

That‘s the problem. West seemed fine to me, he made it pretty far, had numerous opportunities and now that he has regressed, he is citing mental illness for his downfall?

Didnt Cuban give him a spot to sleep or whatever? I think there‘s an underlying secret that no one knows about. But no one will really know. Its a private matter.

There are lots of mental cases and studies out there, but when we talk about mental disorders, we are talking about debilitating types. Kind of like the nba dude who was afraid of traveling by plane. Didn‘t he say the flights triggered actual anxiety attacks or whatever?

West seems sane and rational to me. Doesn‘t seem like he has bi polar at that time when he was sticking wet willies into people‘s ear.

One of my cousins is bipolar. One day he can be the nicest person in the world, the next moment as soon as things don't go his way, boom, violent outbursts like hitting and cutting himself, and the next thing we find out.. he's on the streets and by the weekend locked up in a mental ward high on whatever drugs. I remember going to that Gateways hospital in LA to visit and he was in his room talking to himself in the closet. |I So yeah mental disease isn't a new thing to me but like I said.. you can't feel sorry for em, plenty of my family have extended their homes to him, including bailing him out, money for food/drugs/drank, or whatever but he destroyed all those relationships. Ultimately, you accept them for who they are, and it's up to them to find the help to control their issues.

i didn't laugh at all...................not saying anyone in here is either.

mental disorders are real, very real.
