Ok how bout these. The little Scholatic brochures that your teacher would hand everybody. Then going home and begging Mom to buy some books( captain underpants)

Then when the shipment came in the teacher would call you up and give you a stack of things in plastic and kids would be mad jealous

Also there was always a mad rush to get to the RIF book fair first so you could get the best stuff

Damn. So many random companies flourished in the 90's. Toys R Us, saturday morning and afternoon weekday cartoons.... Afraid this thread is gonna reveal some really obscure thing I forgot about from my childhood.

Pretty much. Like I could watch a brand new cartoon, think "this show is so cool I wonder if they have toys". Go to KB toys or Toys r us the next day and they'd have an aisle full of toys from this brand new show. It was amazong

This trend started in the 80's and frankly it's a little disturbing when you think about it. Most of these shows were downright awful. More often than not, the toy line came out prior to the series and the rights to the series were owned by the toy manufacturer. Their primary purpose was not entertainment, but advertising. So many of the shows we grew up with were little more than 30 minute commercials for their respective toy lines. It was advertising to children on steroids.

Y'all remember the Tamagachi pets hype? Feeding that thing and cleaning its poop...and if were not with the upkeep, it would get sick and possibly die.... Man, the 90s...what a time to be alive and aware...
