just started this post for people to share tips on ways to focus on a task. I realize that i have a lot of free time at work lately, and it can be used to do more productive things. I always start my morning with a mental note of things and it seems as if i get distracted to BS like social media, sports etc etc and can never fully focus on one thing.

I'm looking for variations and different methods. some say meditation, others may say change of diet etc etc, disassociating. Just new methods to really focus your brain and energy on a task

Meditate and make a list of what you need to do and prioritize. Tackle said list accordingly....

i've been on and off trying to meditate this year, as much as it seems simple just sitting there trying to focus just hasn't seemed to work for me.

wait till the very last minute where you have no other option but to focus on getting the job done

slowly reduce your reliance on technology. I know people who don't have facebook accounts or even a nice smartphone that go out and do so much.

Make a list of things to do and put it on an aggressive timeline.

Shut off technology when you're working. Like when I study online there are plugins that won't let you login to other websites than the ones you are using to study for example.

Try to work on things in a room without tv, phone, or laptop to get away from the potential distraction.

Usually I like to start my day off by diving head first into the list important stuff which helps build momentum throughout the day.

Currently reading Focus by Daniel Goleman and am finding it pretty informative so far.

Actually getting started is really important.

Even if its a little bit its something and before you know it you may find yourself fully immersed in it.

For example if you always wanted to write a book.
Get a sentence or paragraph down....dont just think about it.
A paragraph turns into a page....page turns into a chapter....etc.

or if youve always wanted to make a painting......mix the colors....make a rough sketch.......

do SOMETHHING.

"Motivation is fleeting, discipline is not"

Especially as you get older with more responsibilities

I go through a monk-like isolation phase when I really need to study. It's unhealthy though.

This, but I still waste a **** ton of time by myself, missing out. That lack of self imposed socializing actually took its toll and I didn't hit the goal anyways. Wasted my exs time too because I leaned on her too much (but I actually think she loved that). So no more of that, I just need better time management. Is adderrall available over the counter? Just started the caffeine+ l-theanine combo so don't know how that's going yet.

Actually realized I got a couple books I need to get to:

Mind gym
Thinking fast and slow

Ironically, for me it was working from home. Im more productive working from home and get more done than I do at the office, where there are more distractions.
