This fight just shows how boxing has no stars outside of Floyd. Some **** like this would never happen in the 80's or 90's.

False. Canelo/Golovkin should still do big numbers. Some young guys are developing. MMA has the same problem though.

"Boxing" doesn't even want this fight to happen. This is all Floyd. This is a cash grab for both guys.

Only super hardcore boxing fans care about that Canelo/GGG fight. I know this is all for money but the only reason this was ever talked about is cuz there's nobody left for Floyd to fight. There's no younger stars right now to take the torch from Floyd. It's always "Who can Floyd fight next...". Whether boxing wants this to happen or not the fact is that have no stars outside of Floyd.

That is not fact. That is an opinion. If you are saying there are no stars on Floyds level, that's one thing. Saying there are no stars is inaccurate.

There are younger stars for Floyd to fight. Floyd doesn't care about fighting them though. He's 40. He technically retired. Are they as big of a name as Conor? No.

This is a cashout. You're trying to connect two things that aren't really interconnected.

Nah, i'm a very casual fan and been wanting to see GGG vs Canelo.

And then there's this. It would be one thing if you said Ward/Kovalev. But this whole "super hardcore" thing is off base.

So who are these stars in boxing that the public really knows?

The heavyweight division is dead. For the last 10 years it's been Floyd and whoever he fights. Pac was a star cuz people wanted to see him fight Floyd so bad and that's it.

Bare with me for a second but...can you imagine what kind of level Mcgregor would be on if he was able to knock Floyd out. His swagger would be out of this universe lol. I can see it now, McGregor demanding a billion for the rematch.

I don't know why boxing is so hurt about this fight happening. Boxing has fell off hard. I still love watching the sport but too many politics in play. Very rarely is there great fights that happen and take to long to actually go down. I'm hyped about the ward and triple g fight and also the broner 1 is interesting. But look how many years it took for May and pac fight to happen same could be said about the triple g and canelo fight and Ward and kovalav.

Boxing hasn't fallen off, you just don't watch it.

Even though i'm a casual viewer, I still follow sports and know who Canelo and GGG are. They are some of the top guys. Besides them and manny, I would guess others know the klitschkos, maybe cotto.

"dead" heavyweight division.....

Klitchko/Joshua
In the United Kingdom, the fight set a domestic record for PPV buys, exceeding the 1.5 million of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.[37] In the U.S., the fight averaged 659,000 viewers on Showtime; Nielsen reported that the fight peaked between rounds five and six with 687,000 viewers, beating a record for Showtime afternoon fight ratings previously set by Joshua.[38] The delayed broadcast on HBO (which fell during U.S. nighttime hours) was seen by an average of 738,000 viewers and peaked at 890,000.[39][40]

You sound like you don't watch boxing at all but there is a middle ground between yourself and "super hardcore" fans. As the gentleman above me can attest to.

IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.

Anthony Josha is British  of course that fight was big over there. People over here don't know who the hell dude is.

"In the U.S., the fight averaged 659,000 viewers on Showtime"

**** wasn't even on PPV here. And yes I watch boxing. The sport has had a real decline in interest cuz of lack of stars.

Funny, I'm listening to the first take podcast and Max (who knows more about boxing than this whole thread) said everything I was saying. They even brought up how that Klitchko/Joshua fight was only big in the united kingdom.

My god. And you have the nerve to post those walking megaphones on First Take  They're just dudes with opinions man. They ain't gospel.

It was on Showtime. AND HBO. On the same day. How do you copy the Showtime numbers and not see the HBO numbers right after it? Ole' selective ***.......

I guess there was no demand for it here in the states. You're better than this.

The problem with you is you equate PPV with "stars". I already said no one is as big as Floyd. And yet plenty of fighters are still on PPV.

Andre Ward was in Creed, has a line of Jordan clothing, and is on PPV this weekend. Now what?

All those "stars" in the 80's fought on ABC and free TV. Now what?

Do you watch Football on PPV? Baseball on PPV? The **** does that really have to do with anything.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing like you're trying to make it out to be.

I mean first take can be comical but Max and SAS know boxing. If you listened to it what they said wasn't some crazy loud opinion.

You wanna sit and act boxing still got all these stars, cool.

Boxing has been doing great this year.

This fight has no bearing on the state of the game imo.

It's just 2 dudes seizing an opportunity to get paid out the ***.

Agreed.

I'm also one of those fight fans that was born in the 80's and grew up watching some of the huge HW boxing matches in the mid 90's. I now mainly watch MMA but will still watch the new wave of boxing stars like Canelo, GGG, Ward, etc. But even those guys I wouldn't consider mega stars like Floyd/Pac or HWs back in the day like Tyson/Holyfield. I still enjoy boxing to an extent but it just seems the huge fights are few and far between.

I think it does.
Boxing is still a cash cow in the industry, also with the high rollers and baby boomers who inherently have more money to bet/invest in boxing. But in terms of popularity, it's dying in some aspects, as the younger crowds 20s-30s watch MMA. Although, it's almost a no contest for Mayweather, he better win for boxing's sake. I mean there will always be tons of money in it, but otherwise, why box when you can keep the same skill set and then some in the MMA? A loss would be bad for sport, athletically speaking. And because the match is a boxing match, promoted by Showtime (not UFC), with boxing judges, they are going to favor Mayweather anyway to preserve the sport.

That is my 0.02. But anything can happen, but it usually doesn't. Not against Mayweather.

 @ the judges needing to score in favor of Mayweather to preserve the sport.

This is going to be one of the greatest boxers of all time, against a guy who's never boxed before, and if he did, wouldn't even be top 15 in his weight class.

This will literally be the easiest payday in Mayweathers career.

Just bet a dude I work with $100 straight up.

I'm gonna start a ledger and just start betting people $25-100.

The McGregor hype is that real it's unbelievable

Lol how is this fight even fair. Mayweather by TKO inside 8 rounds. Only chance Conor has is if somebody pays him more than what he's gonna get paid to head kick Floyd.

But can Floyd land on Conor?
Conors movement is next level and boxers aren't use to it. People expect him come out hot but he is too smart and not trying to aldo himself. He should be defensive for the first 10 rounds and dance with Floyd and then take his shots in the later round.
Conor with the 12th round knockout.

No doubt it's an easy win for Mayweather. I didn't say the judges NEEDED to do this, but if ever, by any chance it becomes an actual reputable match up, the judges go to Mayweather.
