Ralph Lauren struggling?

Also, for those stuck behind the paywall, the trick to reading WSJ articles is to copy and paste the first paragraph into a Google search. Click the first hit and it should bypass the paywall.

got to admit I didn't read the article once I clicked on the link it was blocked, just to lazy to google it for a bypass

I'll read it later

h&m (and old navy?) are thriving though so that can't be it.

Fast fashion and unwillingness to adapt is the problem. There is something to be said about keeping with tradition and staying with what you were known for but if they do not adapt and change then it'll be their downfall.

Rugby was one of their nicely fitted/slim affordable options and the label they could have used to compete with JCrew and GAP and Old Navy but they killed that division. RRL was nice but was too pricey and they were stingy with the stock (very difficult to find and try on in a brick and mortar) and discounts (back then). Those RRL jeans could have competed with the best of them especially during the huge selvedge denim craze a few years back but they tried to stick to their guns and just do their own things and stayed with mostly traditional sizing (when most were looking for slim to skinny). I was highly interested in RRL jeans back then but they were just close to impossible to find so I never got to own a pair or even try on one.

They need the new generations to get into the brand and without any lines that appeal to the new buyers then they will only continue to lose customers.

Even their more accessible and youth oriented line Denim & Supply fits terribly big for the most part. Also got too many Americana themed clothing with the US flag and all, not everyones interested in wearing those stuff so they just sit there even on the deepest discount.

Yeah, Abercrombie is a prime example of a chain that was really stubborn. They got rid of their CEO but it remains to be seen how they'll move forward.

rfx45 rfx45 spot on

also Denim & Supply is terrible :smh:

as far as the link, sorry guys........i never have that issue with wall street.....weird

but between the ages of say, 15 to about 25 will they want to?

young people, the main buying force are looking for Zara, H&M, forever21, OldNavy, even Target.  Cheap, trendy, non-committal fashion.  Trends change faster now more than ever

and Polo might be losing steam because don't embody those 3 characterstics.

Believe it or not everyone isn't into polo.

Business casual okay cool, but for your regular attire.....nah I rather not look like I'm 45 years old atm

Didn't read the article, but the last couple of years has seen an incredible drop in quality from RL (at least on blue label). It's no doubt correlated to the new CEO, but I wonder if it's a response to this downward trend.

It's like they know most items won't sell for retail so reduce cost to produce, keep the same price points, therefore increasing profits even after deep discounts hit....right?

Zara quality sucks though, much rather spend on money that will last at least a month instead of a few wears

the one that I be hitting up the most stay with the " take an additional _% off "
pshh you be knowin bruh haha that 40 percent off and here in sf it's mostly 50 percent off all the time..

My go to is the sale rack thats at 30 percent off already ..and then you pile in the additional % off here

I walked out with 2
(chinos kentfield,aiden)
No iron shirt for $45 plus tax

I hardly buy rl / polo anymore. Quality isn't that grood anymore but they're still charging crazy prices that most will not pay. Plus they make thousands of products. Maybe they need to cut back on the number of stuff they make. If I want basic shirts I avoid the brand because I don't want any logos visible.

first off POLO is timeless and will always be around. I will always wear the briefs, Polo's, and jeans.

Secondly I use to work there about 2 years ago and RRL, D&S & Polo had sweaters, hoodies, cardigans, chambray ect.. boomin

im less of a fan these days, but i havent done much clothes shopping in the last few years cause my career change  has me always at work.

the new generation is not wearing ralph lauren anymore. Ralph Lauren's time is slowly coming to an end.

i have no interest in the brand at all...........after RUGBY left i left

i realize Lo heads are a real movement though, but that isn't enough maybe
Word, once they dropped Rugby I stopped really wanting any RL pieces. There's still a pretty big market for the old/rare stuff.
