The scores have to have something to do with demographics too. They have a general idea, if not exactly who's playing by those that have registered. They ask DOB before starting every time. I was on the board for a week, from the Friday after start til last Fri.. And haven't gotten over 11,300 since. 
I've beaten the dragon every way I can think of and can't place again. It's bogus to put in hours of work and not even have a shot at winning.

i've killed the beast with first 3 swings.
killed the beast with an assortment of random 3 swings, etc..
pretty much all combinations possible, yet cannot get more than 11.5
throwing in the hat.
