To my OGs, what one thing do you wish you had known about life when you were in your 20s?

Im 29 now...my biggest tip I can give every reaction doesnt deserve a reaction.... Trust me you eliminate a lot of ill negative vibes or harm just by walking away....swallow that pride...

Temper tantrums were in abundance for me when I was younger kinda got a rep for that now...even though Im a lot calmer now...especially when you got a lot to lose

ditto for vagina

I will try this. Are you allowed to drink water during those 16-24 hours?
YES!
You can drink water AND eat small things like Almonds and fruit(grapes, an apple, blueberries) when you are first starting IF it gets too hard.
Those things wont mess up the fast too much.

Also with the water, it's best to drink alkaline water but at the very least Natural Spring Water.(Fiji, Crystal Springs, Deer Park are ok)

For the alkaline Water, those store bought alkaline waters are scams and wont promote your BODY being alkaline.
Instead of buying it just put a teaspoon of 100% Sodium Bicarbonate(Arm and Hammer Baking Soda) into a bottled water and chug it.
Do that 1 a day for 10 days and your body will be between 7 and 9 alkaline PH. It will also flush out your intestine of rotting foods.

For the taste; I realize that baking soda water taste terrible.
if it is unbearable for you just add some lemon(which is acidic but turns alkaline when it gets into your body)
But the best tip is to just hold your breath( a huge part of taste is smell),squeeze the water bottle, and chug it.
You will get used to it, its only 10 days.

I don't wanna derail the thread but can I PM you questions regarding more of your take on IF?

Although college generally starts at 18 years old for most freshman, I would tell myself at that age to go into Freshman year with a clear career vision. If I could do senior year of HS all over again I probably would with a career path set in my mind to pursue.

I'm 25 now, and I would definitely tell my 21 year old self (out of college) to begin saving from the jump. I've started late, and it's going well due to being in work for years now, but had I been better with my money years ago I'd feel as if I'm in a greater state financially.

26 here, 27 in March. Finish school if you start and finish strong. Don't half *** it. Do it while you have no real responsibilities. Because if you wait too long you'll end up taking a few credits here and there and what should have taken four may turn into 8-9.

Oh and don't go to bars so much. It's cheaper and sometimes more fun to drink at home with friends.

Take chances and break out of my comfort zone.

Saving the money used on shoes and unnecessary things for a trip or a something memorable.

Buying a Mustang in the time where gas was ridiculously expensive.

Yep. And anyone else that has any questions.
Im not an expert but I know what I do and what works for me.

The good thing about it is it can be adjusted to anyone's schedule and if you mess up a day you can just shift the fast to another day.
Very flexible for anyone.

The older you get the less damns you give ...go ahead and fart out in public young ones

Some more gems from my struggles in life.

- If you can survive it, it will make you stronger.

- In the streets you have no friends. Trust me

- Evolution isn't always pretty.

- That isn't your girl, it's just your turn with her.

If this isn't the truth.

all these cats you know and are cool with aint your allies

youll either listen to this advice or find out the hard way.

tighten your circle and make certain the people who are in it deserve it.

you dont know how many people I held down thinking it was love who left me assed out when the tables turned.

also, GET MONEY

Reading is essential to expanding your horizons, not two ways about it. I read fiction mostly but I'll read anything. A book is just the best way to acquire knowledge, and it can be through story or example.

It's funny because I'm 31 but feel way younger than I was 4-5 years ago when I was in grad school and holding down a full time corporate job.

Just general advices here since we all have different goals:

-Always bet on the long term goal even if you have to take a few steps back. I have so many friends my age that are still at Costco or UPS because they've been there since high school and got comfortable. Now in their 30s, they feel like they are too old to get back into college. I'm not saying college is everything, but it's an example used to sacrifice short term returns for long ones.

-Surround yourself with like minded folks. Jim Rohn said you are the by product of your five closest friends. This is true. No one in your circle should be putting you down for having wild goals, as long as you are willing to work your butt off.

-Dream big and work hard. You're in the USA where anything is possible. When I was in college, dudes were getting drunk practicing how to get good at beer pong because there was a tourney that paid $$$. I worked at a world renowned cancer treatment and hospital along many gifted folks. These guys would know both MD and Ph. D and some other crazy combinations. One of them was into cars and wanted a Rolls. He said he could never afford one. I know a handful of people with Rolls and most didn't even finish college. In my head, I'm thinking "cars were meant to be driven, why not you?" It sounds very Tony Robbins, but never limit your beliefs.

-Enjoy life and your friends and loved ones. While at the same place above, I got to tour the hospital where some of the wealthiest people were getting treatment for cancer. Some of them would have priests in the room before the operation as nothing is certain. Our time here is limited. Work hard towards your goals but don't forget to enjoy the journey.

-Use your time wisely. We all have 24 hours in a day. No one can buy time. "I don't have time" is such a lame excuse. You make time for tasks and people important to you.
So many facts in here, it hurts.

I also do IF, but I do the 16 hour fast & 8 hour eating window. Black coffee and water during the day, and 2pm-10pm is my eating window.

Devote significantly more effort to real world networking than online networking, and by networking I mean productive business and personal relationships.

I just turned 30 a few days ago and here is what I can tell you all the 20-somethings.

Have a hobby or passion that you love.

For me, it's video games and skateboarding. Two hobbies that my mother absolutely despised. Especially, skateboarding. I started skating in 1998 and quit around 2002 because of school and because I thought it was stupid. As years went by, I couldn't help but look at the websites, watch skate videos, play the video game Skate. Skateboarding was and still is a part of me. As I got older, I thought it would be embarrassing to be skateboading again at this age because I can't do any tricks and I just can't go crazy like these young kids. When I finally got back on the board, all my childhood memories started filling my head. Being with my boys, taking the train into Boston to find skate spots, the joy of landing a trick, riding around. It doesn't matter what people think of your hobby. If you love something, you are happy. Do not let anyone ever get in the way of what you love.

Do not sweat women.

From 23-27, I was determined to find a girlfriend/wife. I did all of that modern dating stuff which is online dating, speed dating, going to social events and whatnot. These women did nothing for me and gave me nothing in return as well. I have been played millions and millions of times by women thinking they would like me more by taking them to a basketball game or taking them out to dinner. They were just playing the game as well and getting free food on top of it. In fact, I was talking to a women who stated clearly she didn't think of me as nothing more than a friend. I went out with her 3 times and by date #3 you get a sense of where the relationship was going. When the date ended, I pulled in and asked to kiss her and she said "no". Once she said no, I knew I had to cut this negative person out of my life. Another one, DO NOT TEXT them. Call them or meet face-to-face and be a MAN! I called her and told her that I like her and I can't be your friend. She was upset and stated I am looking at things "black and white". Guess what? That just told me that she was trying to mess with me and she didn't even know what she wanted. To top it off, I did it yesterday on Valentine's Day. You just can't have these people in your life. You're getting to a point where you yourself is more important.

Save money.

I think the smartest decision I ever made was when I started saving at the age of 17. And I mean I really started to save in a real serious fashion. I am 30 now and that means I have been saving up for 13 years and my career has gone up financially as well. I could put a down payment on my house if I wanted to, get a new car or whatever. No! I am still saving because I always think I never have enough money for a rainy day fund. There is also a sense of security knowing that if anything were to happen, you have the funds to keep afloat.

Reduce clutter.

This is a real funny story. When I was 18, I was determined to move out by 21. I didn't move out until I was 27. Lol. So that day when I was 18, I took a look at my room and figured out what I needed to have a quick process of moving out. The 3 things that had to stay was my bed, computer desk and tv stand and I threw everything out that had no value to me. Fast forward to when I moved out, it took about 30 minutes to move all the stuff into the truck from my room. But there's a really a good aspect to this. Not too long ago, there was a subject about "Minimalism" on NT about the documentary on Netflix. When I watched the documentary, I was blown away! :wow: because I was already living my life like that. Why do you think all those people on the show "Hoarders" are all messed up? It's because they literally have stuff weighing them down! Seriously, reduce clutter and throw away things that do not have any kind of value to you. It was really hard for me to throw some stuff away in the beginning but there's a reason why I am throwing it in the trash.

Embrace your culture.

If you are a person that speaks another language or does not define yourself as Caucasian. EMBRACE YOUR CULTURE! I am Chinese and I am extremely fortunate that my parents taught me how to speak Cantonese and that I am a Chinese person first. I hated everything about being Chinese. I didn't want to speak it, I didn't like the food, I didn't like other Chinese people. I just wanted to be an All-American kid. It is kind of tough to be an All-American kid when you do not look like them even though you speak fluent English and would rather eat pizza than wonton soup. I think I was about 24-25 when I really took a hard look at myself and wondered who I really was and what my family was about. Also, I started thinking that if I have kids one day, I would really love for them to learn another language. Also, I have never been to Hong Kong (motherland) before and I felt there was this large hole in my body because of it. I really began to embrace who I am as a Chinese person by speaking to my parents only in Cantonese, eating the food, watching TVB lol and just trying to absorb as much as I can about being a Chinese person. At the ripe age of 30, I am planning my trip to Hong Kong this year.
