2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

ACC commish stepped in and got Duke in the CFA instead of us.

The BCS games are looking like trash. :smh:

Hold up, what is the situation with the ACC's bowl tie-ins now? I thought the CFA got 1st pick after the BCS bowls were sorted out? If so, why would they choose Miami over Duke? Not like they're too excited about either teams fanbases travelling to ATL for the game. Does Duke have better home attendance than Miami at this point? Srs.

I just don't understand how it would be because of the ACC commish stepping in.

 is this a real question?

You do realize the objective of these bowl games is to make money right?

You do realize they have to sell tickets to make money as well, right? Like Miami fans who don't even show up for home games when they're ranked would actually show up for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. I'm not saying it's the only factor or that Duke fans would travel either but if the CFA's only options are Miami & Duke it's like choosing between throwing up incessantly or having explosive diarrhea. Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't bowls shied away from teams who don't travel well, some of it is also about bringing revenue to the bowl site.

I don't know that this is accurate but I'll answer part of my own question, here's Duke's "reported" home game attendance for 2013:

Aug 31, 2013 N.C. CENTRAL W 45-0 1-0 0-0 3:11 22521
Sep 14, 2013 GEORGIA TECH L 14-38 2-1 0-1 3:10 21267
Sep 21, 2013 PITTSBURGH L 55-58 2-2 0-2 3:37 22714
Sep 28, 2013 TROY W 38-31 3-2 0-2 3:21 30126
Oct 12, 2013 NAVY W 35-7 4-2 0-2 2:49 23749
Nov 09, 2013 N.C. STATE W 38-20 7-2 3-2 3:19 32010
Nov 16, 2013 #24 MIAMI W 48-30 8-2 4-2 3:35 30044

Are Miami's any higher? In terms of actual numbers. Srs.

Just Stop. To a bowl sponsor Miami vs _____ is a better matchup than Duke vs _____ regardless of home attendance #'s.

Well, just because!

"It's gonna be too cold in ATL then or our fans would go. Or what if it rains? Oh, it's in a dome? Well, it could be a noon game. It's an night? Well our fans would be out at the clubs."

Cardo... these dudes don't get it. I guess only going to 1 bowl in the last like 7 or 8 years makes it hard to realize how it works. "We're just used to BCS bowls so we don't have to worry about getting selected for these crap bowls unlike Clemson."

I'm not even saying Duke is a great or obvious choice but the idea that it was just the ACC commish that got them in is funny. If it were the other way around, Duke fans would be saying Swofford got Miami in despite not being the ACC's #3 because he's a Tarheel.

The hate y'all have for Miami for no reason at all is quite amusing.

Love the irony in this post.

Face it, Miami fans are trash and nothing but bandwagoners hence why their own stadium is 3/4 empty if they aren't doing good

Yes. A team that has sucked for almost a decade is just loaded with bandwagon fans. Because that's what bandwagoners do, they hop on the bandwagon of teams that finish 3rd in the ACC coastal and lose to Duke.

I think the term your looking for is fairweather fans. When the team isn't good the fans don't show up. But this isn't true also cause in the orange bowl days the crowd still wasn't full unless it was a big time game.

BCS bowls this year sucks besides the natty game

Only bowl I look forward to is Fresno vs USC lmao

Michigan in a bowl game called the Buffalo Wild Wings :smh::rofl:

Mavety to FSU tomorrow?

Chad Mavety to FSU

Derrick Kelly (who recently decommitted from Kentucky and has recently landed offers from LSU, USCe, UF, Tennessee) is set to announce today as well. Think he may go w/ the good guys.

Scratch that. Kareem Are is the OL set to decide today, fresh off his visit to Ole Miss. FSU, Penn State, South Carolina, Ole Miss are the finalists.

One of the ppl on the FSU boards works for nike and...

was in the on the weekly Nike conference call. If Brown is retired by Texas they're going to go after Briles from Baylor. Baylor is aware of this possibility and would likely go strongly after Chad Morris.

Not really surprising I guess, Does Briles have a crazy buyout?
