most used dealerships provide it free of charge.. same goes for 3rd party sellers..

As stated... but you can pay a one time fee of $39.95 and you will get unlimited carfax reports for any car you are looking to buy from private sellers or dealers.

You are def in luck, I was and still am on the lookout for a new car. It's not a Carfax but its an Experian car history report basically the same thing.
You need an Ebay account.
Post up the car like you are going to sell it you can do a classified ad.
Put in the correct Vin thats the only thing you need to get right to do the car fax.
Put an astronomical asking price so no one bids on it, if the chance comes.
Post the Ad, and review your ad and get your free Car history Report.
Ive done this 4 to 5 times now.
Just copy and paste the info into a word doc and you are good to go.
Feel free to delete your posting.

^^Came in here to say that...just make sure you do it as a local listing [you get those for free] and delete it once youre done....you get about 6 per year with ebay but that is if you let them expire...i've done about 9 or these already by deleting my listing after i get the info
