Bulls offseason Thread

I'm not blinded, but tired of it a little. Tired of having a team in the Top 5 in attendance year after year and continually seeing a small market mentality. I agree they have made some smart moves, but they have made some cheap ones as well. The simple fact is that other players see this and wonder what Chicago really is.

A lot of the NBA is image and what teams portray to players. The Lakers and Knicks are always spending and to others it looks like they are trying to win. The Heat have South Beach and Pat Riley to sell to players that is the spot to be. What do the Bulls have? A penny pinching owner and a petty front office. That is what it looks like and tell me that it doesn't. Sometimes perception is reality.

Good points. Thing is I've heard some people say this stigma is dating back to the MJ/Phil era... But honestly how does stuff that happened in the 90s affect people's views on the front office today? Don't know if you guys listen to Waddle and Silvy but they had a convo about this about two weeks ago. We haven't been able to reel in the big fish. That's a legitimate gripe to share with everyone else - I'm critical of them for that. But when I see and hear things about Reinsdorf being cheap and the front office sucking, I get annoyed at it because people seem to have a penchant for bringing it up. GarPax hired Thibs, a top 5 coach, and was able to hit on nearly all their first rounders minus James Johnson and Marquis Teague. We ended up giving huge contacts to Boozer and Big Ben - also we rewarded guys like Deng and Gibson and admittedly they're earning more than they really should. Criticize them for not getting a superstar, not for doing the best they can do with the cards they're dealt.

I think the 90's stuff is long gone. I mean Pip works for the front office. In fact I'm sure there are players that think he's a punk now just mooching off his name. I mean most of these guys playing weren't even teenagers when Pip and MJ left. They were in Pre-K!

These players all talk to each other and you have to approach this from a guy looking in from the outside. Deng is two-time all-star and they gave him away in what looked like a salary cap move. Don't get me wrong, I wanted Deng dealt, but the trade does look weird to players from the outside. Then that paxson press conference after? Shoot. He's not even the GM and he's stammering his way through the press conference. You expect that guy and the travelocity gnome to get you a free agent?

Another thing I didn't like is at the Paxson press conference when they talked about how Derrick felt about the Deng trade. He said that they never want to get players involved or ask them to get involved in deals. Does that mean they won't ask Derrick to network and get his friends to maybe come here?

I don't listen to Waddle and Silvy. Kind of boring to me hoenstly. I find the Score a lot better except at night time. I like J. Hood alot better than Holmes.

Nope I think most of us in here give the front office there due credit when it comes to there pickups they have a gift for drafting talent, and I feel thats the only role they should play. There business practices on the other hand not so great, there feuding with the coach, the way they handle certain media situations, the contracts, not investing in the bench. They catch well deserved slander at times for a reason.

Call me Helen Keller since I'm "blind".

As a season ticket holder, I hold GarPax to a higher standard even though I realize JR holds the coinpurse. We're a big market team, act accordingly. The "we dipped into the LT" justification would be fine, if it weren't for the fact that they dipped into it for the first time because they couldn't correctly execute their plan to be cheap....i.e. signing Kirk outright.

Back to the season...

DJ is ballin :nthat:

i can't stand watching the bulls play -- so frustrating to watch on offense, i have no idea where the next points are going to come from.

i honestly don't know how the bulls are #1 in fan attendance especially with the insane weather we have going on here.

CAto312 -- where are your season tickets at?

also, bulls fans.. how do you feel about management doing luol deng dirty? dude was never really appreciated here, sadly.

i'm a mavericks fan if it matters.

ireminisce ireminisce I've been sharing season tix with my cousin for the past few years. 300 level, near midcourt, 7th row. I sometimes swap or pick up tix from my 3 other buddies who are STH as well. From time to time I get lucky and get 100 level seats if they can't go.

Here's an interesting article on Forbes about NBA Team Values / profitability. Don't mind any sensationalism that's seeps from this excerpt. Their take on the Bulls:

The Bulls are the NBA’s third billion-dollar franchise. The team’s $1 billion valuation is up 25% from a year ago. United Center JV, the joint venture between the owners of Chicago’s Bulls and Blackhawks, signed a new arena naming rights agreement with United Airlines in December. The agreement, which begins next season, is estimated to be worth $5 million a year, and enables United to continue to be the official airline of the United Center, the Bulls and the Blackhawks. The Bulls are one of the NBA’s most profitable teams every year thanks to four straight years of league-leading attendance, as well as payroll restraint. Although last season, the Bulls bumped up their payroll and incurred a $3.9 million luxury tax bill. Profits were still fourth highest in the league at $52 million.

the bulls obviously lack offensive talent, and i also think thibs is limited in what he implements as a system . the ball is usually in the point gaurds hand until there are 10 seconds left in the shot clock.

we are the new version of mike fratellos cavaliers

Let me get y'all take on this....

SO all the rumors say Melo to LA or CHI, but his wife said she expects him to stay in NY. IMO he will not win a championship there. He will be $40 million richer though. I personally feel like as a pro, you're obviously the bread winner. Although he is married, I don't think the wife has any business directing him. We see how it worked out last time.

Ant, my gut says he stays in NY. I don't think he'll leave that much on the table and I can't see Dolan facilitating a sign n trade with a heated historical rival.

I really felt that he was staying up until about a week or so ago. Plus we have a poor history when it comes to signing big names in free agency. My thing is he needs to shut up and play out the year. That way he can opt out and sign wherever he wants vs waiting for a lucrative sign and trade that pleases NY. Gutting out the team you want to play for obviously didn't work well the first time.

Also don't be surprised if ny traded to Chi because on the low CLE made the sign and trade of Lebron to MIA despite the fact of how disgusted they were. Same for Toronto I believe.

yep all that *****ing they did but oked the sign n trade behind closed doors

i dont think melo stays in NY if he's serious about winning. whether he comes to chicago is a different story.

and the money left on the table is kind of misleading because that 5th year is one where he will likely still make big money, closing the gap. i really hope he ends up in chicago one way or another.

side note: looked at my tv preview of the bulls game tonight, and the headline is "Taj Gibson contends with Tim Duncan" its gotten that bad

i agree if he is serious about winning then he leaves but if he just blowing smoke he stays gets the money bag and be miserable and possibly not even be a hall of famer imo. he has done absolutely nothing except score the ball. i wouldnt mind him coming to the Chi if he buys in and is 150% all in the concept of team basketball none of which i can see him doing just my 2cents

I agree jpf just hit a corner 3 also just wanted to add that I'm A follower of DJ Augustine on Twitter just like Nate Robinson last year nice Pickups

Good win last night. Jo has been playing great lately :ha woukd be nice to see him Rodman's consecutive streak for doulve digit rebounds

Yup, undermanned or not that's a good start to this road trip.

I saw this question on twitter the other day: Would you prefer Rodman or Jo? If both are fully healthy, I take Jo.
