Edge Of Tomorrow (2014) - Trailer - Tom Cruise,Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt was great. After seeing how bad *** she was in this, I think she should've been the one casted as Wonder Woman instead of Gadot.
I also thought she'd be great if they ever made a Mass Effect movie

I think a Mass Effect movie is still being planned out.

If people are saying Emily looked tough in the movie because she worked hard to get in great shape then I don't understand why people are doubting that Gal could also do the same for WW. It's a hate-fest for her in that thread.

Marketing was horrible for this movie. It was already pinned up against The Fault In Our Stars which is going to make money, so that's tough to begin with. But it didn't even beat Maleficent according to early weekend estimates. I don't recall ever that I've implored people to see a movie as much as I've done with Edge Of Tomorrow.

I think it's the male lead.

Nothing against Tom Cruise - he did well in this film - but I don't think America wants to see him anymore. Internationally, it's a different story. He has star power overseas.

If the lead was Chris Pine or Matt Damon, this movie would've done ok.

They should've learned their lesson from Oblivion. Tom Cruise is no longer a big draw over here.

I agree with the marketing. I think it plays a factor too. Probably should've shown some of the comedy bits, and stay away from those exo-suits as much as possible - it draws too many comparisons to films in that same vein - and give folks that been there, done that impression before they even see the movie.

Well one, she can't act which is where most of the hate is coming from. She's not hot to where you cast her strictly for sex appeal. It was poor casting.

I'm never trusting another NT review, ya'll dudes LOVED pacific rim....

that said, will watch this movie sometime this week

^Deadass, after the movie I said, this has everything Pacific Rim was missing. Characters, emotional arcs, editing, a story that worked.

Emily Blunt :wow:

Similar to how I bought that Linda Hamilton in T2 was a badass I bought that she was this sword swinging badass that can operate these body weapon machines with ease. The fact that she's attractive is icing on the cake.
She had it all. Made that sword so damn awesome.

When she left the grenade on her way down? Mannnnnnnn. :nthat:

Get her in something like Lucy or w/e. Make her Ms. Marvel. She can do no wrong for me forever after this and Looper.

Full Metal *****. :smokin

Don't think I've loved someone in a movie more than I did with her in this one. That gif :wow:

And I still stand by everything I said last night. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

People really dislike Tom Cruise. Has much to do with basically being a conglomerate of his own, similar to why folks hate the Yankees. Like the Jay-Z of middle aged white people.

Edge of Tomorrow is the best Tom Cruise movie since Collateral? Minority Report?

It's not bland like Oblivion, or just good enough like the Mission Impossibles. It's like...I don't know how to talk about the film, because all I wanna do is break down moment for moment how pitch perfect and impressed I was with the movie. Emily Blunt did work. It's the best she's ever been in anything. I thought...it's stupid that she has a sword...no. They're trying to make her badass? She is. She owns every moment that she's in this film. There aren't just 2 characters in the movie like the trailer makes it seem, and I don't wanna spoil you on the others. And the bad guy is so much better than I thought it'd be.

The marketing was so awful, but at at the same time, it did a service to anyone who might go see the movie, because you haven't seen 90% of the stuff that makes it great. The mech suits looked stupid as hell in the trailers. This grounded them, made them make sense against the enemy they were facing, and made them awesome in a realistic way. The whole time travel mechanism, felt like bs that they just stole from whatever was lying around in the trailers, but they make it work in such a seemless way.

It's the Tom Cruise movie for people who hate Tom Cruise. And they use his particular type appeal (and unappeal) towards the audience against him. He's not really the hero of the movie. And they break down his character as a scumbag from go. It's so clever. It's so ridiculously well written. I haven't seen anything like it since Memento. And the action scenes are awesome. They're so consistently well done and surprisingly just kick your *** at times.

You never expect awe when things are cgi, but there are so many moments in the film, you just lean back and think damn...they nailed it. And the pace is perfect. The whole middle of the film could've kept going on forever and I would've been happy. It's brilliant the way they edited the movie. You never feel like you see any sequence for longer than you needed to. For a movie that relives the day over and over, it actually never feels repetitive. I mean, it has that up on Groundhog Day. In that, Bill Murray was a cynical god-man, who knew all and just lounged around playing tricks on people. In this Cruise never, ever knows enough, no matter how many times he's been through.

It's the beauty of the filmmaking. They knew exactly how many takes they needed to get things across, with the movie never getting stale. And the comedy just always hit. Not punchlines, but just super witty. It reminded me of Casino Royale. A movie with so many great action beats, that was just witty top to bottom and flowed relentlessly to new emotional beats and tense scene you never saw coming, but always felt like it fit. And since you followed his emotional journey through the time jumps there was such a strong core to it. I forgot that Tom Cruise was a movie star until right now. I knew he was popular and always did a good job, but we been making due with Aaron Johnson and Jax from SoA and Chris Evans, and all the great ones like Damon doing trash, that I forgot what the real looked like.

And the realest cleverness of the writing and storytelling is that they built a world that mattered to you. They built a scenario that shouldn't work, but it just does so immediately. They never made the film so simple that you could plot it out, because the differences in each take wasn't just pick Door #1 or Door #2. The movie was constantly ahead of you, but so damn accessible. The only knocks I could give it are maybe the very beginning jumps into things real quickly so you don't get a chance to think..."well wait a minute..."

And something at the end, but honestly, that'll be down to who you are, how you feel about the characters and the movie, and what you wanted out of the story, cuz for me...I knew it didn't make sense, but I smiled anyways. It's all the side characters that got their points and gags across. It's the feel of the movie. I mean this is the man who made Bourne Identity and you can tell, in every little chracter moment peppered all over the film that just hits.

...

There's something about this movie. And I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about it not being a sequel or the first part of the next thing. Something about them getting to build their own world and tell a complete story in it. This is what Pacific Rim should've been. It's what all these big blockbusters should be. It's so complete and singular.

9/10

At the very least it's Top 4 with Lego Movie, Grand Budapest and Cap 2. But a part of me really wants to say best movie of the year.

Deadass, I did not intend to. I was just replying to someone about it and this happened.

And I hate that they changed the title from All You Need is Kill to generic *** Edge of Tomorrow.
I think it's good because everyone had low expectations, not because it was a great movie.

That being said, it's worth seeing in theaters and you will enjoy it. It's nothing that hasn't been explored before (time-travel) but it's a good film. Emily Blunt did have that sex appeal tho.

That's true, but like...people still turned out for Ghost Protocol, not too long ago.

I think it's just that his last few original movies looked generic, and most people who saw em said, solid Redbox at best.

The marketing. :smh: Gave you no clue how witty or clever or cool the movie would be. Made it look like Oblivion 2. And people just got burned by Elysium, and this looked like that all over again. Everyone just kinda >D and said, it's either gonna suck or just be a good Redbox/internet watch.

Oh and changing the name from All You Need is Kill

Saw this last night. It's definitely the sleeper hit for the summer. The only reason I saw it was because of word of mouth and NT.

Good of mouth will probably result in smaller drop offs but without a big opening weekend I doubt it'll be any kind of hit financially with its 175 mil dollar budget.

What I've learned is rule of thumb is you need to make double your budget to start seeing real profit.

Hopefully I'm wrong. Liked it so much I'd see it again.

I think people aren't interested to see it cause it looks like a generic boring sci fi Tom Cruise movie like Oblivion, Jack Reacher, etc. I loved the movie but even I wasn't interested until I heard how good it was from a friend
