I agree with you. The girls I work with completey disagree with everything I have to say, saying that he should've left her and just because she's prego doesn't mean that he has to stay with her especially since he doesn't love her anymore. The more we discuss it and the more time that goes by...
The more incredibly genius the ending actually becomes in my mind.
At first I was like whaaaa... That's it?
But weeks have gone by, I've watched a few reviews, read a few message boards with people discussing the movie, heard you guys break it down in here...
And now I'm like whoa.
That ending was so real it probably flew over many of our heads. Instead of giving us what people "think" they wanted to see, like a cliche death or divorce, we got the ugly/creepy/sad yet ultimately realistic truth as an ending.
Who she become is exactly what a guy like that would come to like. There's obviously a reason Ben started to cheat on her. That boring, been there done that phase of marriage got to him. That kind goody too shoes act by the wife is something most guys would probably get bored by quick.
As sickening as it is, the fact that she did turn into such an evil ***** probably brought back all the attraction and feelings he had for her back when they first met. It was like the honeymoon stage of your relationship coming back, except in the most twisted and u comfortable fashion.
We're most attracted and intrigued in our companions when we first meet them because we have so much to learn about them.
Ben thought he had learned everything there is to know about his wife, so it just became stale like most relationships do.
In a way he was back to trying to figure out who she was again, and that intrigue was all back.
It's clear at the end that no matter what words he was saying to his sister, the truth was he WANTED to stay with her.
There may have not been very many options, but there were still options nonetheless.
He chose to stay... So it said it all.
And after a few weeks of thinking about it...it makes sense, based on who he was throughout the movie and who he was when he met her.
Perfect ending man.
Movie just became even more outstanding in my eyes.
Will cop that blu ray with no hesitation
As a male, I was trying to explain something similar to this that his feelings may have remerged or that he was just simply scared that he couldn't leave. it's more than just a love story for him to just get up and leave, a simple solution proposed by the girls I work with. But sometimes it just isn't that simple. maybe I just think differently because I just have a crazy love story myself or I just have issues.
