Goodbye, Toys R Us? * UPDATE: Toys R Us is preparing to liquidate its U.S. operations, sources say*

My parents bought my the first PlayStation from TRU, and that was the last time I ever got anything from there. It was too expensive compared to Walmart and eventually eBay/Amazon

I'm 36 and Toys R Us was expensive when I was younger. I remember GI Joes were $2.50 a pop at Target but $3.00 at Toys R US.

this aint how the future supposed to be

toys are supposed to be cooler now not abandoned altogether for youtube and apps

my kids gonna play with regular toys/action figures/cars/etc. along w the new stuff for as long as i can control it...i feel like it lowkey builds your creativity along w going outside
Few years ago my pops decided to start over at 55. Had a kid with his new wife. They live in Orlando now, I'm in Atlanta. When I visit Lil man stays on the ipad smh

I took him hooping and he wasn't nearly as athletic as I thought he should be at this point :smh: my pops too lazy/tired now :smh:

I doubt TRU is going away completely, but kids are smarter now. They aren't amused by plastic dolls anymore and if they are, it only holds their attention for a day or two.

Most of the cartoons I watched growing up were made only to sell toys. I think things are a lot different today. There's no one show every kid loves that has a line of toys. Kids have many more options.

"Today marks the dawn of a new era at Toys"R"Us where we expect that the financial constraints that have held us back will be addressed in a lasting and effective way," said Dave Brandon, the company's chairman and CEO, said in a release announcing the filing.

"We are confident that these are the right steps to ensure that the iconic Toys"R"Us and Babies"R"Us brands live on for many generations," he added.

The toy seller also intends to seek protection in parallel proceedings for its Canadian subsidiary.

The company said it will continue to operate as usual its approximately 1,600 Toy R Us and Babies R Us stores around the world. The company's operations outside of the U.S. and Canada are not part of the protections proceedings, it said.

The retailer said that it has already received a commitment from some lenders, including a JPMorgan-led syndicate, for over $3 billion in debtor-in-possession financing. Although that's subject to court approval, Toys R Us said it "is expected to immediately improve the Company's financial health and support its ongoing operations during the court-supervised process."

Restructuring that debt would give Toys R Us the financial flexibility to continue its turnaround. Initiatives include improving its website and revamping its Babies R Us business, by focusing on items like cribs that are less likely than diapers to be sold on Amazon.

A bankruptcy filing will also help the retailer manage the the crucial holiday season and give vendors like Mattel and Hasbro clarity into its long-term plans.

I went to toys r us today to get my kid something (I had a gift card) while walking around I was thinking to myself "I wonder how long this place is going to stay in business for?" Then I came home and saw the news on Twitter.

I'm rarely in a toys r us but it's still cool to walk around and see what toys are like now and check the cheap videogame bin.

I have a lot of memories at TRU from picking up tickets for NES games as a kid, to buying Ronin Warriors, Beast Wars, Gundams, etc. during High School and recently I've been buying Star Wars figures a lot more but if they were to just disappear, I probably wouldn't even mind:lol:

Look around, I don't see kids playing with toys anymore. By 7-8 yrs old, they already got a laptop, iPhone, iPad.

Yall remember how it was when we were kids and they had a million toy commercials show like every hour? I feel like there are significantly less now.
Like toys are still popular, I still see kids I know play with them but it aint like before. They mostly want that tech. Got 6 year olds out here with cell phones and **** now.

Meanwhile I'm still out here playing with a rubik's cube and a gameboy color  I don't wanna grow up, I'm a toysrus kid :pimp:

Damn hate it had to be Toys R Us. So many memories of my eyes lighting up as I ran through the isles. Kids have nothing but computers now a days. A shame.
