Is Camden, NJ really the worse city in America?

I see housing up there being cheap and heard crime being high. Is it really that bad?

As long as I lived it's always had a horrible reputation. Been there a few times and it basically holds up especially if you don't know anybody and are around the area late.

Seeing how NYC has changed and that place hasn't a great deal is unbelievable.

Don't think it's the worst city in the country though. That gotta be some place in Ohio or Illinois or Florida.

Camden is rough, stuck in the 80's is a great description for it. My neighbor runs a youth organization in Camden, very commendable work.

The two worst cities I've been in have both been in Jersey, Newark and Atlantic City.

Dont do it bro.

My friend almost got jacked twice rolling through there. Once was during the early afternoon at the red light and the 2nd time he was there was at night at the light. He was helping his grandma move out and they tried to run up to his car at the light both times...First time dude walked up acting like he was going to ask a question so he sped off and while he was dude was trying to open his car. 2nd time he saw 3 guys running up to his car on a quiet sketchy block from the back so he sped off as well. LUCKILY his music was low or theres no telling what those dudes would of had on em and jacked his car.

He vowed to never go back there  :smh:

The town I live in is literally a 1 minute drive from Camden. Literally right next to each other but its like a different country when you go to Camden. It does live up to its reputation though, very very bad area. Some parts aren't too bad though like near the Rutgers campus on the hospitals but overall its bad news.

Forgot about Gary, Indiana.

Atlantic City?

You need to travel more in the country.

Atlantic City is horrible, aside from that one 1 mile block radius with all the tourist attractions have you ever been out in the actual city? :x

My brother and I decided to be heroes and go out to a strip club in the city:smh: I've never clutched my purse so hard in my life.
Yeah I been around there elsewhere.

It looks bad but it actually isn't all that bad. Just undeveloped. As far as I'm concerned, Atlantic city is just the boardwalk and a few places adjacent to it

Newark is actually really bad all over. Camden is horrible horrible.

What?!  I'm not trying to see bad cities, I'm good on that. You can see them for me and tell me how you like them

The worst city in the country, bar none, is East St. Louis. It's in a category by itself.

The next tier of worst cities include Camden, Gary, and Detroit.

St. Louis, Newark, and Baltimore probably represent the next tier.

This is based on both personal experiences in all these cities as well as actual research on urban marginality and violence, which is part of what I do.

I'm not gonna sit here and say it's goat but it's not the worst

I'm a 10 minute drive from Camden, and yes it is very rough down there. I avoid going through there if I can help it.

I still remember I was being trained to be a mail carrier for USPS in Camden...and me and the lady that was training me were approaching a corner.

The lady proceeds to tell me a story about how 2 dudes ran up on another dude and smoked the dude on this same damn corner right in front her..in broad daylight :smh:

I quit the next day

St. Louis was the nation's murder capital last year for cities with populations above like 200,000. Higher than Detroit, Baltimore, Newark, etc. More than twice as high as Chicago.

My wife is from there too so we're down there a few times a year. It's bad bro LOL

I don't think thats accurate.. I've read there were like like 190 murders in st louis. There were close to 500 in chicago.. not sure about the other cities tho. Still a bloody year regardless

I'm talking about murder rate. How many murders per 100,000 residents. That's really the only accurate way to compare levels of violence across cities and across time.

Looking at sheer numbers makes Chicago look terrible but it's really not compared to lots of U.S. cities.
