Just hit the lottery... What car should I buy? ++UPDATED WITH PROOF OF TICKET++

a BMW M3 or a Honda S2000 should do just fine.

with the S2000 you'll have plenty of money left over... and the cost of maintainence isn't that costly

One of the wisest investments you can make, especially with the state of the economy today, is a house. The housing market will rebound, and you can double or even triple your money if you wait it out. With a car, you are going to see an instant depreciation. Even if you can't afford to purchase the place straight up, with a $100,000 down payment, your mortgage payments would be pretty damn low. You could do a 15 year mortgage, saving you that much more in interest, and a lower rate to boot.

Get a house, and a practical car. Don't throw your money away on an Audi. It's Volkswagen garbage, unreliable, and it's styling becomes outdated very quickly. If you read up on Audi's on Consumer Reports - their predicted reliability is awful, and in terms of bang for the buck, you will never see an Audi on one of those lists.
I can tell you never owned a VW. If you did you must be a very unlucky person. Volkswagen is one of the premier car makers on the planet. VW and Porsche(sp?) are under the same umbrella. They share the same parts. Unreliable? A VW could last you into the 250,000 and more mark. Garbage? LOL Styling goes outdated? REALLY? The GTI is a certified classic in the sports world. The Jetta is another classic design.

I love how everyone on NT states their opinions as facts.

I was speaking about Audi's styling. The GTI, sure it is a certified classic, but they killed it's styling with the redesign. The Jetta? Same story, there is nothing remarkable about the new styling of these cars. As for Audi, I think the A4 from the late 90s/early 200s has a classic design, but the A6from the same era is terribly outdated now. I can still look at a 7 series BMW from 2001, and admire how beautiful it is. The 2003 7 series? Horrible. I'm not really interested in arguing my opinion versus yours, so we can agree to disagree.

But as for the predicted reliability and associated ownership costs of Audi vehicles, maybe they've improved, who knows? It's certainly not a smartpurchase as pertains to the original suggestion, that the OP take his lottery winnings and waste it on an Audi.

I bought my first car before I had my own spot....That logic is horrible
laugh.gif
then so was your logic. we all have different preferences, mine is a roof. I would rather have a roof with concrete under it, instead of a roof with wheels
You acting like dude homeless.Unless you know something we dont
nerd.gif

I mean here is the thing, you can lose your job while you still have an apartment, then what ? ride it out ? no. you can't. so, the best thing to do is BUY a house, so that in case anything happens, at least you have a roof and all you will have to worry about is utilities. is that hard to comprehend ? lol
How you know dude doesn't have a house though? With no job how he gonna pay taxes for that house? How he gonna pay utilities? He gonna have the rest of the money left over after this car he wants. You acting like dude spending his last dime on a whip. You know how many months of rent 75,000 is?That gives him more than enough time to find a new job in case he does lose his job.Just shut up dude

haha the thing is you don't know either. but my assumption is that he lives in an apartment. apartments are never guranteed. A HOUSE IS. yeah, but at least he will not have to worry about paying for rent. that is a BIG PLUS. I take it you live in a small town. second of all, which one will last longer ? by your logic a car will right ? well I hope you will the lottery, I know what you will buy. most likely you are thinking short term. I'm looking at it long term. so OP go ahead and listen to most people suggesting to buy a car, and see what will happen in 5-10 years. and lastly, if you really really need transportation, I suggest you buy a motorcycle. and I'm done with this thread too much I WANT TO BE COOL AND BE SEEN IN MY NEW WHIP MORE THAN ANYTHING mentality.

also, even if you buy an expensive european car, most likely you will drive it carefully and those maintance fee will go through the roof !
You thinking long term and don't know this man situation.Who's to say he can sit and wait on this money 5-10 years?Who said anything about being cool in his new whip?Dude just made it so he can buy him a decent car that will last he aint looking for a lambo.A motorcycle?Dude doesn't live in hollywood. If I win the lotto I'm paying off what I can for college.Like I said you have no idea about this mans situation so just shut up and when he ask what to invest in you can chime in.For now he looking for a car though so your advice isn't really needed

I'm just giving advice that is for the best in his interest. sure I don't know him, but I'm pretty sure he is not balling, because if he was, this lotto would mean nothing to him. well that's how most people are taking, let's get the best car you can with a price limit of 50 gees. I would never pay that much for transportation, especially since the maintance will be ridiculous. you can't even change the oil on your new BMW, you HAVE to take it to the dealer.
sick.gif
paying off for college then splurge right ? lol you're right I should just zip it. and as for you, I suggest you go get some sleep, seems like all those nights of staying up have really impaired your thinking ability.
wink.gif
pimp.gif

-smile
Impaired my thinking ability?Yet your the one that can't think correctly. When did he say anything about "50 gees"?Dude said 20.Pay for college and splurge? You think with 100 grand you paying off your entire stay at college?Dude goes to OSU if im correct.I'm pretty sure he'll still be in debt even if he used it all on college. So your saying he should get a house when he is probably still dorming. Then get out of college and still be in debt? Not to mention he doesn't even have a career yet, and doesn't know where his job opportunities will be.Listen to yourself. You obviously aren't the brightest of the bunch. So I take back what I said before about chiming in if he asks to invest. You keep on "Ryding" and have a nice day
wink.gif

depends which college you staying @. still debt ? lol how much do you think college cost ? there is no interest rate in that. only if you get a loan. which we don't know, and you're assuming. I say get a house and pay it off CASH. I never said to pay off in payments, paying off in payments is a really bad idea if you don't know that. exactly, my point, so you want him to get out of college while in debt, with a busted car and still have payments for rent. he is better buying a house for future collateral, I don't know if you know this or not, but I would rather sell my house, than sell a car why ? because there is more money to be made in a house.
eyes.gif
but then again this is a car suggestion question. and like I said previously, GET A MOTORCYCLE.

yes, yes and you have fun staying up @ night while you watch wade highlights and busting 187's.
smile.gif
OSU over 4 years I'm pretty sure is over or around 100 G's depending on if he's dorming.Dude is in ohio.Where it snows. The +@$! is he gonna do with a motorcyle?Buying a house for future collateral?Or he can just keep the rest of the money in a bank like a normal person would and not have to worry about collateral. What if when he gets out of school the market is still down?Dude doesn't even know what state he'll be living in, in a couple of years.A new car will be busted in a couple years?Really? Why are you assuming his goal is to make profit?Like I said maybe just maybe dude needs a reliable car and isn't planning on making bank off of it.We look like clowns arguing about something the OP didn't even ask for in the first place. So I'm through
grin.gif

LOL like a normal person ? I don't know if you know but there is no such thing as normal
wink.gif
either way that is great idea. also, if he does not even plan on living where hecurrently lives, then what is the real point of getting a new car ? but then again , I'm no one to suggest anything. and I'll leave with thisstatement, who is more of the fool, the fool or the fool following the fool.

real talk... get a certified pre-owned car: lexus is300/is250, 2008 acura tl, infiniti g35/g37

u can buy a crib for less than 100k in Texas (if I'm not mistaken)

but in reality dude won't be able to sustain paying for it by that lotto money

anyhow, get a nice Acura , Lex or Infiniti.

congrats.

Congrats! You are a lucky dude. Safe almost all of it, buy a 2009 Mercedes-Benz C63: $56,300 or a C350 for $39,000.
