BEFORE YOU GO CRAZY about trading Ball over Russell, it's much easier because the VALUE of taking a guy of your choosing is significantly higher than guys who have already played.
I think there would be a few workarounds in it, to make the deal even better for us.

- Helps Indy because they now have 4 prospects (JC, #2, #19 & Turner).... A 2018 lottery pick for when they miss the playoffs. Deng can slid right into the 4 for the Pacers and give veteran leadership to help the young guys... Can also then move Thad Young for a Late 1st pick in 2018 because he's in prime years and not of too much use for Indy.
For the Lakers in 2017

We'd have $22-25mil in cap space in 2017, We SHOULD NOT use that space past 1 year. All 1 year deals. Overpay a PG for 1 year, and maybe another guy at the 2 or 3 for a year.
If we do not use the space beyond one year.... Monta is in a Player Option year, he'll likely decline it (BUT, he could be someone you can trade for nothing by the deadline to guarantee you have space), Brewer comes off the books.... We can stretch Moz.
From there we would have about $42-45mil in cap space for 2018 even with Julius' cap hold. That would allow us max Cap for a Boogie Cousins.... And $15 or so million to get a 3 & D guy for the bench or a backup PG...
The alternative trades make no sense because in order to create the necessary space for a second max, you'd have to gut almost all of the young guys at the minimum (likely exception of # 2 & BI would be the ones who would end up safe)

How so? There are no other suitors in the NBA ready to trade for Paul George? You don't think the Celtics have an equally if not, more favorable package they could put together to get him there? You think Paul George is going to have a hesitation playing for a team that just finished with the best record in the east?
Boston could easily give up the #1 and someone like Jaylen Brown and have a much better package than the Lakers. This idea that the Lakers are the only possible team that Paul George could ever go to is a complete fallacy.
If the trade market for a headcase like boogie is a young prospect + a lotto pick, what the hell makes some of you people think you can trade for him with a late first rounder, 25 year old prospect, and a horrible contract?

This same type of stuff gets reported every single year. I dont really see why Paul George is going to jump ship for a team that is probably going to win 30 games next year.

Ok so say they do trade the young players for PG. why would PG resign with a 35 win team with only Ball on it? He could've just stayed in the east and played with Myles Turner in that scenario. What would be the motivation for him to resign? He's not getting the super max because he's not making an all NBA team.

My point is, every year there are reports about some big name free agent coming here, and every year we dont even get a meeting. PG isn't leaving a 40 win team to go to a 30 win team in the prime of his career.
