There's some great discussion going on in another thread about advice for first-time homebuyers.

As an architect, I'm always curious to see the types of houses that people call home.  Also, it's interesting to see how far money will go in different cities and neighborhoods.

We also have several "Post Your Bachelor Pad" and "Post Pics of your Room" threads, but I don't remember one devoted strictly to housing.

So without further adieu, esta es mi casa:

Built in 1930
Birmingham, Alabama
Bought in Oct. 2007 for $195,000
[incidentally, I probably couldn't sell it for $150,000 right now]
3 bedrooms / 1 bath
1,200 square feet [excluding unfinished basement and detached shed in back]

Apparently I only take pics when it's snowing, lol....

[p.s.... I'm at work, so that's the only picture I have here.  It was taken in 2010.  I'll try to post a better one when I get home.]

I remember a "Post your House" thread a year or two ago, but NT'ers either posted fake houses, or they said it was unsafe.

OP, that's a nicely designed house you have there...looks cozy and pleasant, for such a small house.

No lie, boys gonna have to learn the hard way. Boys ain't eating in these streets and them flat screens go for $200 on the skreets..

I dont see the issue of posting your spots. You people are acting like you are posting the address and such. And in any event, a lot of that information is readily available now a days anyway. OP, nice house!

Hmmm, 5408 _______ Birmingham, AL
Missing a street name but that can be easily obtained. There are just somethings you don't post online and where you lay your head isn't one.

I think one is safer posting the house rather than the address

whats the difference between posting a pic online and people walking past it everyday?

Thats not even worth 80k in Orlando. Hell I think I could low ball and get something like that for 50-60k.

Sounds about right.
but the key part of the equation.

Good thread.

I wish I was in Architecture.
Not in my cards. Taking construction engineering so I can work with Architects.

I still read design and architecture literature.
Love checking out homes.

Easiest way is to just use Google maps, then black out your address and be selective about what info you give. This isn't my house, it's my parents but I'm upstairs now (application currently pending for me to move back out again, but that'll be a rental)

It's a 2 story 5 bedroom, 2 dining room (1 reg, 1 formal), 2 living room (1 reg, 1 formal), 3.5 bathroom, w a sunroom and 4 car garage on the main house, then to the side he built a detached 2 car garage with 1 full bathroom and 1 bedroom dormer above it. I want to say he paid around 250k at the time as a new construction, because the neighborhood was still developing but now that it's more established + more soldiers being bought here daily + they built another neighborhood with HUGE house right across the way, it'd go for around 500k if he were to sell it probably, judging by looking at the listing of the new adjacent house for comparable homes and I know our next door neighbor got 330k when they left and there's isn't near as big as ours. I don't know if the developer is getting the prices he has listed on his website here though. He's basically asking over 150sq/ft.

Oh yea, it's in Lawton, Ok. And they stopped making that basketball goal, it's called the Strongman Rim, literally indestructable.

It would be weird to have no trees around at all.

I mean, I never missed them in the city cause well, it's the city.

But living in the suburbs, I couldn't imagine it being void of trees.

Seasoned vet> I love your home/location. I would go crazy if i had a lake in my backyard. Looks grat, and I think you got a teal for that price.

Haha sorry for the above post!^^^^ Didn't realize I skipped alot of letters in certain words.

Thanks! Yours as well!

My dream home is a Craftsman bungalow with a front porch! Unfortunately not many of those around my parts.

I love old houses and their character.

Built in 2001
El Mirage, AZ
Bought in May 2009 for $74,000 (appraised @ $80,000)
4 bedrooms / 2 bath
1,800+ square feet

Have added an extended driveway with a path to backyard. Will be adding an upstairs walk-in closet, extended the patio sidewalk in the backyard and move the fencing to have more backyard space for a basketball court and cement.

- thanks bruh. its actually a 31 mile long river that ends in the Gulf of Mexico. in the summer people spend all day zooming back and forth on their sea-doo's and boats.

- these units were going for $222,000 in 2008 when they were built, but the recession hit and the builder coudnt move them. so they slashed the prices and i got mine for around $50,000 off. i bought it for resell value only. im glad to see the market coming back....hopefully i can sell mine for what the builder wanted initially one day soon.

- even though it was built with crown molding, granite, etc. i still have a gang of work i wanna do before i sell it
