Apparently one of my posts on my blog were linked to this site cause I was a Canon owner that bought a Nikon. Have no idea how that happened but I thought thiswas interesting. Here's a link to the top selling cameras. Not sure where they got this but to people that want point and shot cameras, you can see whateveryone else is buying. Obviously Canon is killing all other brands......

Damn, I have the 1D Mark III lined up but now I'm torn between getting it or the 5D Mark II. After seeing my friend's photos as well as videos from his5D Mark II, I'm starting to get convinced that I'd enjoy using the Mark II more. The 1080p HD video recording really opens up a whole new level ofcreativity. Video recording aside, the images it produces is amazing. Anyone here pickup the 5D Mark II?

I think i'm gonna buy a slr today but i'm unsure which one.Which one would you recommend for a beginner? It's between a D40 and a lense or Canon XSw/ 75-300 lense.

^ Don't get an XS with the 75-300 as your only lens. Unless you'll be shooting subjects from a distance such as sports, I suggest you find one with the18-55 IS kit lens.

The XS comes with the kit lens and the 75-300. They have it as a package deal at bestbuy for $550 I think. The only reason I'm looking at bestbuy because Ihave $350 gift card

I would go for the 5D MKii. Its got a nice refresh of its internals, and its a smaller camera to lug around. Its not like you're shooting sports events andneed the 10fps burst mode...

That's a pretty good deal with that gift card. I don't want to turn you away from this package but don't expect crispy and sharpimages from the 75-300. Reviews have shown that it produces soft images wide-open from all focal lengths. Still not bad as a starter's gear though. Istarted of with a Sigma 70-300 since it was fairly cheap and I loved it more than the kit lens.

Yeah. I don't need the 10fps but its excellent high ISO performance, weather-proof sealing and better vertical grip makes it tempting. A used1D Mark III and brand new 5D Mark II with battery grip are pretty much equal in price, that's why I'm having a hard time deciding. Right now, I'mreally leaning onto the 5D Mark II.

Also Santi, how are you loving the G10? If I don't end up getting the 5D Mark II, I might get a G10 or even G9 for video capability. I really want the MarkII's 1080p though

The G10 is pretty decent in good light conditions, but its starts getting noisy at ISO 400. The video on the G10 is O.K, nothing to be excited about though. Nooptical zoom while recording, and the focusing is weird while recording video. I've been looking into importing a Powershot SX1 IS from Japan. It'spretty much a G10 (Image quality wise) with 20x optical zoom, Full HD 1080p video at 30fps, and 4fps burst mode. Looking quite appealing right about now.Here's a sample video from the SX1. And how come on the Canon site, it says that the Mark II shoots only 3.9fps? Where did the 10fps come from? I always thought that was one of the weaknesses onthat camera.

^ I was talking about two cameras; the 1D Mark III (which shoots 10fps) and the 5D Mark II (which shoots 3.9fps).

I cant wait. I can honestly say Japan (Tokyo) is now myfavorite place on the planet, next to Sidney. I still havent been to Hong Kong so we'll see.

Oh....my bad. I am at work and I am doing the duck and dodge routine with trying to read stuff on NT.

And yeah, the Mark 3 is the camera of trade for skate board photography. Even with my 4.5 frames per second on my D90, you get no sense of motion, especiallywhen you have a skate board flipping in the air. You need as many frames as you can to get what the trick is.

^ I like most of them. I would have changed the composition on the Falls Casino shot. Pan to the left to get the Falls in the shot also. It would have lookedbetter IMO. I've been told not to center the Subject every time. The white balance on the lighter shot could have been cooler, but I'm not sure if youwanted it to look like that. The first and last shots are dope.
