OFFICIAL TRAVEL GUIDE: JAPAN

Hey Folks, 

Searched throughout the forum and came up with not much info or recent resources on travel guides to Japan. Looking to start a series of travel guides (UK, Asia, South America etc) for sneaker enthusiasts and foodies alike to help other members to better assist themselves with future travels. 

I am traveling parts of Asia next month (HK, Singapore, KL & Japan) and was wondering which areas to hit up for all the sneaker shops and great restaurants? Atmos, Bape, Supreme etc...

In Japan, I am staying in Shinjuku for 4 days, Mt. Fuji 2 days and Kyoto for 3 days. 

Any help would be great!

How long will you be in HK and what are you trying to do there? Shop? Eat? Party? Site see? I lived there for half a year and go back to visit. I could recommend some fun things to do there depending on how long and where you're staying. Lmk your interests and I will come back and post. Got a bunch of pics I can post too. Need to get out to Japan. It looks awesome

I will be out in HK for 5 days. Def. Looking to for restaurants. Party at night and def. site see...

tokyo, kyoto and osaka. simplest advice for clothes/shoes is this: tokyo - harajuku, kyoto - the long shopping street where FIL/visvim is... i forget the name but it's easy to find, osaka: the area where supreme is.. there are other stores there including skit. there are plenty other places to shop for shoes and clothes though. tons of consignment shops etc. dunno if they still have the maps but try and check superfuture.

How you like Osaka compared to Kyoto and Tokyo?
 
osaka is similar to tokyo but i prefer tokyo for shopping and eating. kyoto is much less modern. there aren't a bunch of tall buildings. you get around by bus instead of train. i really enjoyed it there and hope to go back one day.

I got 8 days in those 3 cities...so hopefully I can eat, shop and see as much as I can. I know for fact I will be returning back to Japan since flights are pretty cheap at certain months of the year. $600-700. 
 
7 Half Floor is a shop that has all different hyped items for resale (Supreme, Bape, etc...) There are multiple different locations you could look up the address. Prices will be higher than retail obviously but not too crazy. I got a BBC classic logo shirt filled in with Bape camo at this place. They're legit.

Go to the "Central" district of HK to shop at HOODS (Neighborhood, WTAPS, etc...), BAPE, and other places. This is really the best place to shop anything high end in the Central area. I really looked HOODS because I love Neighborhood but it is expensive.

Also Tsim Sha Tsui "TST" district has good shopping. There isn't a Supreme in HK I don't think. Sneakers people have different taste over there and I'm not into sneakers any more really so I'm not sure.I think this is wher eI found the 7 half floor.

You can just walk around those two areas and find a bunch of dope stores too. There's also a big mall in Causeway Bay near those spots.

^This might help. Old but the address for HOODS on Ice House St is accurate and the Bape store is around the corner.


Aside from shopping I would highly recommend:

-Happy Valley Racecourse - horse track, HKers get REALLY into it, the gambling aspect makes it intense, dope seats you can buy with buffet included, I had fried ostritch at one of the buffets here lol
When I visit I stay at the Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong. It is directly across the street from the race course and has reasonable prices.

-Sheraton Oyster and Wine Bar. If you like oysters, this is the best, and most expensive (but worth it), experience I've ever had. It's at the top of the hotel in a tower and you have a view of the entire skyline and the bay. Beautiful

-Ocean Park Hong Kong. Amusement park with fun rides and THE BEST AND LARGEST AQUARIUM I've ever been to. Maybe the best in the world? If you go to the park you must also make sure you go to the aquarium.

-Go to the Venetian (largest casino in the world) and other Casinos in Macau. It's a half hour or so boat ride to Macau if I remember correctly.

-Go party in Central. No need to pregame. Stop at a 711 in the street between bars and grab a beer, wine or even liquor bottle (yes from 711) and open it up and drink in the street on your way to the next spot. Hit up rooftop bars as the skyscrapers are massive and the skyline is sick.
If you go when it's really hot, there's an Ice Bar above the stairwell by the Hard Rock cafe that is a fun place to stop in and take shots in a freezer while wearing a fur coat.

-Chungking Mansion in TST. Cool spot just to check out for it's sketchiness. Also one of the cheapest places to stay in HK if you're on a budget. But definitely not the safest. Any way you should check out the entire Nathan Road where it is located for good deals on electronics.
There are a few Indian restaurants in this place that are the best I've ever had. Just don't get lost in this place.

-Jumbo Floating Restaurant. Cool restaurant you take a little boat to get to. Might be hard to get into and order if you aren't with a local.

-Street meat. Tako tentacles, meat sticks, etc... It's like NYC street meat and halal but cracked out. Just try different things.

-Go out in Wan Chai and start at Carnegie's. You will not be disappointed. Lots of hookers and brothel/strip club combos in this area though.

-Ladies Market on Mong Kok road. Small tent vendors sprawling over a long strip. This is where you can get cheaper goods that are good gifts/souveneirs. If you can speak a little cantonese or mandarin you can negotiate prices down. They will chase after you if you negotiate then walk away from the deal lol. So much fun. Got all my gifts here. Only cantonese I remember is how to say "how much?" and "too expensive" and "cheaper please" :rofl:

-Victoria Peak. Best view of the entire city. Worth going up there just to marvel at the skyline and take pics.

-I don't even know the names of the places I used to eat at the most. But when I went back there last time the guy still remembered me. I'll try to find the name of this spot it was some of the best food I've ever had, very cheap prices, and the best beef/veal cake dumplings ever! Make them right in the window.

-Find a fish market and just walk around. There are tons of exotic fish I don't even know how people eat. Live shrimp are flying out of the water and onto the ground near your feet. It's really interesting IMO.

Will try to think of more and post a bunch of pictures later. I have pictures of everything I just mentioned in my post I'm pretty sure. Any questions/comments let me know. I love HK and love talking about it.

@Hennessy  WOW, appreciate the recommendations for HK. I have not even really looked into areas of HK, so thankyou for all the information!

Def. looking to hang out in TST since its consider the old HK and I know Lam Kwai Fung is where the spot is at now these days. I know I will be going to Victoria Peak, Macau for a day and the rest is just enjoying all the good eats in HK. I know things can be pricey in HK but I hopefully I can find my way around and pick up a few great items. Is there anything you recommend as far something I SHOULD def. try? I know the milk teas, Dim sums, Chai siew baos are a must...
 
I will let you know later. I plan to post a bunch of pics in here either tonight or sometime this weekend. I'm sure the pics will remind me of some things I'm forgetting also.

How many people are you going with and what is the relation?

Going with the wife lol...the Boys trip is later this year in Costa Rica lol...
