Why do the OG Jordan's NEVER look like any retro, no matter how good the retro is?

It's like the shape is different, is it the way they were laced in catalog pics?

Honestly, I believe the reason is they don’t use the same lasts that they used back then. And Nike often claims that they don’t have the original molds for a lot of models as well, which would suggest they are remaking the shoe from scratch.

I've read about them not having the molds anymore. Are the molds just big pieces of metal with the pattern in it?

I would have thought that once they became a billion-dollar company they would have bought tons of warehouses and just preserved all of their history in them.

It's probably cheaper for them not to do that though.

I'm skeptical about Jordan Brand wanting to be it's own brand since the very beginning. I can see eventually they did but there are tons of takes that make it seem like it was Michael and his agent's plan all along.

I know that with the Jordan 2 and on they started removing the branding but eventually there were other Nikes that didn't have big swooshes on them too.

I feel like people will say whatever fits today's narrative. I believe most of what had been said about Jordan Brand's history but I know some of it has to be apocryphal. I'm sure they were just making it up as they went along.

(MJ leaving for Adidas after the second or third shoe changes the narrative of wanting to build his own brand within Nike a little.)

The 1 is probably the most mysterious of all that MJ wore. You had the sample AIR JORDAN font on the side, then the wings logo with NIKE on top, the "1.5"s with the diff mid outsole, then the finished version.

I need help from this thread for my collection.

My goal is to collect every publicly released Air Jordan that MJ wore in either an NBA game, NBA All-Star Game or Olympics. I don't have them all yet, but I have about half.

Retros only, don't have the money for OGs, plus I wear most of them and OG 2-8 midsoles would pretty much be crumbled.

Criteria for me is:

1. MJ had to wear it in an NBA game or NBA All-Star Game as a Bull, or in the Olympics (exception made for Black/Red 1s, which were worn for the 1985 Dunk Contest).

2. It has to be an original colorway (for my collection purposes, I'm counting the "black/concord" / Space Jam XI as an OG since it was worn by MJ in the 1995 Playoffs).

3. It has to have been released publicly.

4. No lows (i.e. XI Low IE).

5. 3-6 have to have Nike Air on the back, the rest are the retro versions that are "closest" to the OGs.

With that criteria, my list is at 39 total OG colorways worn on court by MJ during the Bulls era.

Please let me know if there's any that I'm missing. Thank you for the help.

Great posts. Can you get more pics of the low-top 13s he wore during the 1998 playoffs? I think he wore 3-4 different pairs.

And the low-top 11s he wore in the 1996 playoffs, he wore black-reds and black-red IEs.
