And that's why it's lazy. If you comparing it can't just be cuz he's "the guy". Wayne, T.I and Kanye were all the guy at some point. Are they like Jay too?

Jay was never the GUY

A few artist sold more than he did, Em, Nelly, Ja, DMX

Jay just had consistency and respect .

The comparison was very off
EXACTLY
Jay era was PAC big nas
He couldn't get any shine until they died
If they wouldn't have died
And nas put out I am
Jay would still be a nobody
Wouldn't be surprised if he was a co-conspirator
With big gone he could take his rhymes all willy nilly
Ol snake self
if not for hard knock life (the song)
And dmx blessing him on money cash ****
He woulda BEEN gone
Ol bum self

People DID conpare Wayne and Jay during his peak.

This isnt about sales so to say Jay was never the guy is false. Everyone wanted a verse from him, his co-sign held the most weight, and popular public opinion was that he was the best rapper.

TI and Kanye never fit that bill.

I hate when people say this

That's like saying people didn't like Midnight Mauraders because of The Chronic

As if people can't like more than one item at a time. Kendrick doesn't shine because of Drake.

It's lazy. When people say this I wonder if they were actually alive then. People need to stop repeating cliches that sound good, because they're totally inaccurate

That's influence

Drake doesn't have influence

Kanye is more influential than Drake

Rhymefest
Cons
Kid cudi
Fonzworth Bentley
That boy Kanye faker than a $3

T.I had big singles, big albums and movies. T.I introduced trap to the game. Him, Wayne and Kanye were pretty much even between 05-08. It just depends on your preference.

Drake and Jay have close to nothing in common. It's Steph/Jordan all over again.

TI never ever was considered the best overall in the entire game. Like never...ever. Nobody was thirsting for a TI co-sign.

Leave music out of the conversation and look at how the public views the artist.

After Rocafella broke up Jay became president of Def Jam because he was the biggest artist at the time and hip hop was at a weird point.

Drake is the biggest hip hop artist right now in the industry executives eyes.

Replace biggest with most marketable and they are at levels not too many other rappers have reached. (Wayne was deff there at one point.)

Nah ti was not even with Wayne and Kanye
If I may say
Even jeezy
Pulled ahead of dude
Speaking of jeezy I got to thinkin
Jeezy at his best when he being lyrical
I need another recession or corporate thigh in type verse from jeezy
That boy can spit when he wants too
I think i prefer lyrical jeezy over trap jeezy

You're on Niketalk, right?

Also after finding out ti was acting like a scorned lover
Cause flip didn't let him get on the game over remix
I look at dude a lot differently

Plenty of people looked at T.I as the best at that time. Like I said it depends on your preference. The point is he was in that group. You talking about co-signs. He started a whole sub-genre of rap.

If you comparing people it has to be more than just "this guy is popular so he's like Jay Z". That doesn't make sense.

I really dont understand how this is hard to grasp. People keep adding in all of these different variables.

And ti didnt introduce no damn trap to rhe game.

His album being named trap muzik dont mean he was the founding father of that movement.

Bryson tiller
Torey lanes

That's a couple of artist.

Jay is like 50, Dr Dre and Puff. They stand above everyone else. They're pop culture icons, not just rap or hip hop.

That isn't Drake's lane. Drake is just a rapper. Jay-Z is a whole hell of a lot more. Drake is Wayne or Snoop.
