Griffey looks ahead after Report
Reds outfielder hopes to restore confidence in game
CINCINNATI -- As the baseball community continues to digest the release of the Mitchell Report and its ramifications, Reds players and members of the front office have remained largely silent on the issue.
Right fielder Ken Griffey Jr., one of the game's greatest players and a member of the All-Century team, declined to speak directly with the media about the issue. However, Griffey issued a statement on Friday through his agent, Brian Goldberg.
"Obviously, it's unfortunate having these names attached to the investigation," Griffey's statement said. "But more importantly going forward, we need to do everything possible to restore and maintain the fans' confidence in the integrity of the game and its players."
Former Sen. George Mitchell's report to Major League Baseball about performance-enhancing drugs was released on Thursday after a 21-month investigation. Of the 89 players named, several former Reds were included as well as current Cincinnati reliever Mike Stanton.
A 13-time All-Star, Griffey has 593 career home runs over a 19-season career with the Reds and Mariners. Most of his career achievements have come during what's become known as the "steroid era," but his name has never been linked to any allegations regarding performance-enhancing drugs.
"I totally believe him when he says he has never dabbled in any of those performance-enhancing drugs," Goldberg said. "Besides staying away from performance-enhancing drugs, I'm proud of Kenny individually, because never once have I heard him say, 'If those guys hadn't done this, I would have been able to accomplish that.' Just like I never heard him say, 'If he didn't have all of those injuries, he would have accomplished this or that.' "
man, i can't wait 'til opening day.
lemme find a couple of Griffey videos i know of that maybe you haven't seen before. some of you guys will enjoy them.
i think he got injured alot bc of playing on astro turf
Not for the Reds, they don't have astro-turf and he also hurt himself a few times running the bases. If he would've sped up recovery withdrugs, he would be over 600 right now easily. But he let himself naturally heal, and missed a lot of games. Good for the sport, bad for numbers. Nice guythough

"He's friends with a 'roider" is not solid; it's based on an assumption of likelihood. Guilty by association =/= guilty.
"He gained weight" is not solid; it fails to distinguish between gaining fat, and gaining muscle, not to mention swollen craniums.
"He had a lot of injuries" is not solid; again it's based on an assumption.
See, "His trainer admitted to giving him steroids" is solid. "His teammate admitted to taking steroids with him" is solid. "He is a known, regular customer at Steroids-R-Us" is solid.
There's nothing solid against Griffey, so (like I said), nice try.

I'd LOVE to hear those solid facts you have against Arod LMAO.
Griffey took steroids, deal with it.
Edit- Btw you don't make the standards for whats solid and what isn't.
"Nice try" with the steroids-r-us too.

yeah man, i know. it's just that dude J Rain always posting BS about the Nationals. if we're not in contention, there's no doubt in mymind that Griffey will be moved during the season.Originally Posted by dmxfury
And Wildcat, you know it is possible the Reds will move Griffey. Perhaps the only reason they don't is 600.
I'm positive Girffey took steroids too. He gained 20+ pounds from his rookie season and hes also known to be friends with Barry Bonds. Hes also had a lot of injuries in his career and steroids users bodies tend to break down. Its pretty obvious hes always been on steroids.
20 pounds over 19 seasons?Ska, you shouldn't even waste your time with this fool.
There is nothing solid against Griffey.
there's not even anything inexplicable.
