Is it "hustling backwards" by having a degree and enlisting? Do they take account your degree or is pretty much everyone that enlisted started out as a "scrub"

If you have a degree don't enlist. Unless you have to.I almost did...but so very glad I didn't. Cyber and iw are fairly new fields in the navy and they need people especially minorities. The rest of my schooling will be on the navys dime

E2, but its not really hustling backwards, but you can definitely benefit yourself more by pursuing a commission. Each service also has several commissioning programs to help their enlisted servicemen become officers

I have a degree and I enlisted. True, it wasn't a great move but honestly, I knew I was gonna use the Army for their free education and getting certified on their dime.
As for the Army, if you have a degree and enlist, you'll be an E4 (Specialist/Corporal). At least you're one step away from being an E-5 and an NCO.
If you had to do this route, I would do it for the least amount of time and go about and see how the military life is. Once you go through it, you can go comissioned or whatever path you choose. I tend to also hear that you get a LOT of respect from you fellow leaders and peers, considering the fact that you have been on both the enlisted and commissioned side.

Im 27 years old and jobless living in New York would the military be a good idea. I also have two years of college and a summer under my belt.
