Dude showed up in the Monster seats tonight, and you forget that he was the BEST PITCHER OF ALL TIME.
354 Wins - 9th all time, 1 behind Maddux. Clemens, Maddux, & Spahn are the only to start the careers in 1900's
4,672 K's - 3rd behind Randy Johnson and Nolan Ryan
3.12 ERA - Hard to find stats but very impressive- Ryan (3.19), RJ (3.29), Seaver (2.86), Koufax (2.76)
11 time All Star
7 Cy Young's - most ever
1986 MVP - Last pitcher to be MVP
2 20K games
Steroids mean nothing to me. A good portion of the league was using, so, IMO, he was getting on the same playing field. With that being said, he's pitched 23 season, with 4 "disappointing" seasons. He had 12 seasons with a ERA under 3.00, and 15 seasons with 200+ innings. There is simply no pitcher, post 1920, that even compares over the length of his career. Pedro and Koufax are the only pitchers to come to mind that challenge, but both their primes were significantly shorter than the Rocket's.
And I'm a 21 year old Sox fan who never got to see him pitch for us, so I grew up detesting this man. but as I grew older, i realized he was forced out and he didn't turn his back, which goes far in any Sox fans' heads. And to have 2 20K/0BB games?
plus, he is the person that first pitched the Monster seats to the Sox owners back in the 80's...
