What cultures outside of your own interest you? Vol. Culture Appreciation

Brazil. For whatever reason Brazil has always captured my interest throughout my life-

I remember being 7 and watching kids play street fighter at the laundromat and being intrigued by Blanka. He later became my go-to character on SNES.

Only the Strong was my sh__t back when I was younger and my cousins and I would try to do capoeira.

Later in life I rented City of God based on the movie cover alone (a joy that the next generation of kids will never understand).

BJ Penn the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu prodigy inspired me to begin training BJJ.

I want to get onto more Jamaican food

I gotta find some spots in the DC area

Any of my DC dudes can put me on? :nerd:

Yo no disrespect to you African brothers but is "African time" real to y'all too?

The I guess you call it "pre-wedding" was suppose to start at 2:30, man that joint didn't start until 7:00...one of the chicks I was talking to said "oh you must be new to African time." Basically add at least 2 hrs to the original time.

BUT this. I go up to Northern Michigan every year where the native american owned casinos are and they are cool as ****. Alot of the employees are native American and will chop it up and answer questions. Dudes hair is impeccable too, 60 year Olds with long straight ponytails. They can party their assets of also.

Indian culture. Was hooked when I saw a picture of the Taj Mahal as a youngin in the library.

Chinese and Japanese cultures.

Some things I just don't get and others I'm just really interested in. Like I'd get on my anthropologist grind when I get to Hong Kong and Tokyo.

There's a few others like Brazil, Colombia, Italian, and Russian but Asia is what comes to mind first.

can someone explain this comparison to me? is one casual and the other hardcore?

One is rational and the other irrational and obsessive going by that description.

Just going by that description, I'd be an otaku. Use to have it in my sig on another SN. I only run in to those other types on manga forums.

So for the people who are interested in Japanese culture what are you guys doing to get more info about it? Traveling there? Any books or blogs for folks like me who ain't got the scratch to fly out there?

I love japanese culture. How they carry themselves, How they are as people, etc. I would love to go there and chop it up with a cat that lives in a cyber cafe

I am also intrigued by Argentine culture for some reason...Well, majority of the reason is the women  . I want to know how soccer impacts their daily lives, learn to play soccer with them, eat with them, etc. I also know there's alot of Europeans that Immigrated to Argentina after WWII so I want to speak to someone that went through all that.

I am very interested in Buddist culture. Not 100% if it's mostly based on the Monks and their clothing and mala beads or just the tranquility they emit

Second would be Japanese, the food, the people, the language

Also Samoan tribal rituals and their history and Jamaican cultures
I respect this answer. We share similar desires man. You hip to Alan Watts? Look up his concept of time. -

An otaku is basically a pepe the frog, forever alone, type of loser nerd, key board warrior type of guy who cares about online repa n poat counts whose into anime and nintendo DS birthday bashes with their anime goddesses. it is by no means a compliment when someone calls u an otaku.

curious about mongolians as its in asia, yet gets over shadowed by chinese, japanese, and koreans, perhaps due to their globalization advancements.

Damn son. You just gon slander me and my boys from the Manga thread like dat doe?
