I see nothing about than land in Chester having Board of Health Approval. Even though it may sell for cheap, if it can't be built on, it has very little value. You always have to do your due diligence before buying a property and know what you're getting into.
Even though it may cost next to nothing initially, if you buy a building with serious issues: asbestos, mold, etc, the cost of remediating may be higher than what you paid and municipalities may not let you just tear it down and rebuild if you're potentially releasing harmful toxins into the air.

No doubt, I was just throwing it out there because a lot of people don't know about eBay Real Estate and even more unknown the XXX section of eBay (you get blu rays and dvds extremely cheap because there's very little bidding competition). Where I live, people buy random land like that just to hunt it and lease i to other people to hunt so buildability would be irrelevant

property values of places like that in Detroit are extremely low, yet Detroit has ridiculous property taxes, you can buy that building if you want, i will give you two years tops before you realize you dont want it because the property taxes are sky hi and the place is in a low valued neighborhoodGoogle map 8200 mack ave in detriot...you can buy ishh like that

and im from Detroit, love the city, used to think like you, but you would need to have serious millions to go splurgin on property and expect to maintain it

You won't make any money off of realty in Detroit unless you KNOW Detroit. Half of you don't know **** about Detroit. Only people from Detroit make steady profit from the land and housing.
I used to live in Detroit in 1993 for 6 months. It was a much more vibrant and active city than you see it now. In a span of about 10 years from when I first moved there, things turned around so quick in that city.
Only the people of Detroit can actually help Detroit. What I mean by that is outsiders can't come and attempt to re-adjust the city. There are some areas in Detroit where they don't even turn street lights on at night, to save city money and to also lure away goons after-dark. You have to really know a city to enable things like that.
Almost every city that was on the edge of falling right after 9/11, did fall and have yet to see steady recovering. Taxes got raised and people in the city left; so did the money. The American automobile industry hit rock bottom 3-4 years after 9/11, so that hasn't helped Detroit - but they've since recovered and the American Automobile industry is regaining steam. I still go there every once in a while, I got family there still and they have some of the best authentic Arabic food you'll ever find in America. Too bad it gets a bad rep..

Detroit is perfect for a cultural Renaissance imo. You have people who have lost everything and have to expand their minds in order to survive and express themselves. Don't take it as far fetched, but I see Detroit as the New New York City during Obama's last term.

Not to thread jack, but its not just Detroit that is in bad shape. Most Manufacturing cities took a hit post WWII and Post 9/11. Look at Cleveland, Oakland, Camden, NJ (or NJ in General). White Flight, loss of the Manufacturing jobs made these cities go downhill rapidly, mix in the corrupt officials and law enforcement, housing markets and you have a product of these cities where even the citizens have just sort of "given up"
My brother went to Detroit to participate in the "Alternative Spring Break" his Sophomore Year of HU. He described just like yall are saying and the pictures say. He took pics and I was amazed, he saw it 1st hand. It was sad. The reason why he went was the Literacy rate, which is horrid in the US.
Loko at Pittsburgh, DC, Philly, most of those cities were manufacturing cities at one point, Downtowns were Ghost towns, Crime was rampant, now Downtowns are booming, housing market is desirable,if not in demand, and Cost of living is expensive.
