The only thing S5 ensures is that S4 won't always be the worst season of True Detective.

The writing on S4 is objectively bad, more than 50% of the show is filler,

They fall into a hole literally in the middle of nowhere, walk 50 ft and now they're magically right under the Tsalal Station?

This situation reminds me of when TLoU2 dropped and if you called out the poor writing you were labeled anti LGBTQ, only here they'll say you hate women because of the female leads.

Which is kind of ironic to me because you had a weak male cop solving the entire case.
