I have to correct myself...Eisenhower had a hand in overthrowing Mosaddeq. Carter didnt say a word when the Shah was overthrown, that was the end...

I hope people are watching this stuff that goes on in Iran, people that complain how bad they have it dont appreciate the freedoms we have. Just take a look atthe people of Iran, their protests are peaceful and the Republican guard are beating them to death. Anyone see the video of the girl being shot to death?Sick...

this is so emotional for iranian-americans like myself, I've been glued to CNN for a week now

I was born here but my parents came here from Iran in 1977

I have family back in Iran and it's just amazing what's happening

People are finally fed up after 30 years of oppression, human rights violations, unjust executions, being told how to dress, being told what to eat anddrink, being told what kind of music to listen to, no freedom of speech, no freedom of press, beatings in the streets.......(all in the name of Islam ofcourse)

The Basij secret police is what really trips me out. The government brings people from neighboring Arab countries and pays them a lot of $$$ to just beat downprotesters.
Other Basij are actual Iranians who are undercover and given free admission to Universities just to find out which students speak against the government andbeat and kill them

The average American cannot even fathom the level of brutality in Iran and how severely violated the people are

It's time for the mullahs to leave Iran

This is the perfect example of why Church and State should be separate

youth of Iran: your time is NOW.......DO NOT GIVE UP

let me break it down for you.

The Guardian Coucil of Iran selects 4 candidates to run for President. The people can only vote for one of these predetermined candidates.

The results of the landslide victory of Ahmadinejad were announced within just hours of the election even though the 40 million votes were all hand counted. None of the opposition parties were able to have representives monitor the counting of the votes.

The 11 million vote difference was later cited by the "supreme leader" as the reason why this cannot be fraud, because the difference was so big. Heargued that if it was a small difference, then you can argue fraud. Seems like this was a predetermined scenario to make it more believable. The old theoryof "people will believe a big lie and not a small one"

Furthermore, many provinces had 120-140% voter turnout for Ahamdinejad. More people voted for him than the actual population of that area.

Also, Mousavi lost by a landslide in his own hometown.

The supreme leader also said it will take months to recount the votes, even though it took them hours to initially count all of them.

This is clearly fraud and it was a predetermined result to keep the reform party powerless.

The world needs to see this. Look what the government is doing to its OWN people who peacefully protest:

this makes me wonder.... would america be capable/willing to do what the brave people of Iran are doing?

ok listen this is not in anyway a revolution. Do you wanna see what happens when people want "democracy" look at pakistan. people want"change" and "democracy" but it is usually more corrupt than the dictator and I think thats what is happening here. What Mousavi is doingis agitating and provoking the government, this hurts Iran in the long run because instead of reconciling its drifting the country apart. In some countrieslike Iran, Pakistan and others dictators keep people in line ( where they need to be, radicals) and bring somewhat progression (not reforms).

I am much closer to the people of Iran than you are I can honestly tell you that this is WAAAAY different from what happened in Pakistan. Peoplein Iran have had less freedoms and have been butchered and brutalized far more and for much longer than in Pakistan.

also, Iranian people are very moderate and secular in comparison to Pakistanis. They are very envious and enamored with Western culture and ideals. They areready for democracy and freedom. They have experienced a backwards revolution before and have learned lessons.

ok I agree with you except for how long people were brutalized. Pakistan has had more dictators than Iran, atleast I think. How long was Iranunder dictatorship? Pakistan has endured dictatorship for a majority of its modern life from 1948-1971,1977-1988, 1999-2008. Also I believe based on this"lesser of two evils" concept that Mousavi's government like alot of "democratic governments" in the world would be very corrupt
edit: I dont think the Iranian Islamic revolution/theocracy should count as a dictatorship because people supported it and still can go to the voting polls forpresidential candidates.
I heard the election was very close.

OK so in a sense from what I understand(please help me understand) is that the Regilous leaders the "Mullahs" pick 4 people to run for president. Thepopulation vote then votes are tallied and winnder in annouced.

What happened is that with hours of poll closings Admendihajad what claimed winner in a landslide when a overcounted amount of voters/area. Only admendihajadspeople witnessed the counting. The counting took hours but they claim a recount will take months.

From what I know the people who were recorded on current TV which in that pod was a about a neighbor hood didnt like that man even laughed and joked at himover something over Tomatoes Prices.

So now the question I have is do the people have a chance really or with the GOV outlass the protest or just smack all those people down?

I would say the government will win, not all of Iran agrees with the opposition

So whenever a president doesn't meddle in every single affair in the world he gets the blame? But if you want to do so every single presidentEisenhower on down should get the blame for not acknowledging what we did to that country except the one who had the balls to apologize to try and create abond (you know who it is so I won't say it.)

Carter presidency not so good. Not the worst by a long shot. But Carter's post-President work

But my comment on this is everyone should really get involved in this news because it is going to be something HUMONGOUS (in terms of international news) thathappened during our lifetime.

Sad situation, I don't see this revolution being successful though. No foreign government is willing to help the protesters and the crowds aren't quitebig enough to overwhelm the military.

so its just what a 3rd 20% or just the young people? Cause if none of the older crowd will help then this was over before it started.

I think what is happening is more of a fight between oppositions and parties vying for power rather than actual "democracy" taking completely overand Mousavi is using it all just as a rhetoric. Mousavi already has a not so good record from time when he was Prime Minister from 1981 to 1989. I would sayAhmadinejad even has a better record than him.

I am also a bit skeptical because it makes me think that this could have been all pre-planned if even Ahmadinejad did truly win the election. I am talkingabout Western funds, money, intelligence, etc. that would be behind anti-Ahmadinejad candidates and assisting in creating civil unrest to push for a"revolution" to allow the toppling of Ahmadinejad's regime and place him with more of a pro-western leader. This happens quite often as a meansof "democratization" in other countries.

So, that is why I am ingesting all this carefully.

Even if Mousavi was voted in, would it really have made such a change? Not really. If he has brokered with the Western and bartered to become more pro-western,it would maybe alter the relationship of Iran with the U.S. a little bit, but in the end it is the Ayatollah and mullahs that have most of the say on Iraniandomestic affairs and forein policy.

i dont think the US should get involved with this one

So you are telling me that Carter should have done something or said something when the Shah was overthrown? The U.S. government administrationwere more like shocked at when the Revoluton of 1979 happened. Do you know what the Iranians suffered under the "pro-Western" Shah regime? Then theU.S. government administration wonders why the hell an extremist and more of a religious fundamentalist uprising came up to overthrow the Shah. It is theShah's brutal regime in Iran which brought out Islamic fundamentalism out of its ashes.
