1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers Appreciation....Greatest College FB Team Ever

There are four teams that consistently show up in the "best ever" debate. 1971 Nebraska, 1972 USC, 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami. There are plausible arguments for each of these great teams. But I happen to find 1995 Nebraska's case to be the most convincing.

No other National Champion can boast wins over 4 other AP Top 10 finishers. That in and of itself is impressive, but when you consider Nebraska beat those four teams by a combined score of 196-73, one wonders if such a feat can ever be matched

Nebraska was NEVER challenged the entire season...The starters rarely played the 4th quarter
and what people arguing theyre the best team ever fail to realize is it was a different era. that #%%+ wouldn't fly today.

There was only 6 years that separated the 95 Husker team and the 01 Miami team...That's like saying the 2003 national champion team is in atotally different era than the Florida team from last year...

If Craig Krenzel could run on that Miami team, Tommie Frazier damn sure could.

edit: Wrong year im slippin

I was 7 at that time so im having a hard time thinking Nebraska could keep up with Miami's speed on offense and defense at the time...someone prove mewrong

nebraska was recruiting the best athletes and football players at that time, just like what miami was doing.
ya acting like it was decades that separated these teams apart and nebraska didnt have speed?
laugh.gif

they won like 3 chips in 4yrs

The 2001 Miami team was probably better (hell, even Washington's 1991 team as well), but Nebraska's run from 1993 - 1997 was the greatest string ofsuccess in CFB history (yes, ESPN, even better than USC).

60-3, three National Titles, three undefeated seasons

I'll have to say this team > 2001 U. U of M had a lot more stars but damn that Husker team could not be stopped and you knew exactly what they weregoing to do. And the Black Shirts

unlike Miami and USC, Nebraska didnt have a lot of home grown talent to choose from...Phillips was from LA and Frazier was from Bradenton, FL...

We had a few great skill players from Nebraska (Crouch, Ahman Green, Scott Frost) but for the most we had to convince athletes to come to the middle of thecountry to play in the cold in a non pro style offense...

Nebraska used to win the Big 8 every year but we'd get beat in the bowl games by all the Florida schools. So Nebraska started recruiting RB's andoption QBs and turning them into DB's, and LB's to match the speed of the Miami and FSU.

Georgia Tech? They're doing pretty well for themselves w/ that option game.

'95 Nebraska woulda been the GT option on steroids.

And with as hard as that option is to stop, I'd say they would beat a good number of teams.

Yes, even the mighty '01 Canes.

@ the thought of Mike Rumph and Phillip Buchanon trying to tackle Tommy or LP on the edge.

The thing that UM has going for them are those two beasts they had at DT. But still, in the end, I think Nebraska would pull it out.

Dre, Miami woulda had Ed Reed and Sean Taylor in the box at all times beatin down on that running game cuz there was no way in hell Nebraska could throw aforward pass. Buchanon and Rumph woulda been fine on an island against those guys.

Vilma, Wilfork, Williams, Reed, Taylor, McDougle, Mcintosh, Campbell, all woulda done work and it would be a great matchup to see.

Maybe the most focused college fb team ever. The 01 UM team used to sleepwalk through games.

You realllly think the triple option and a so so passing game would have worked against that year's Miami team?

I'd agree, watched too much film from that '95 Cornhusker team.. they murdered EVERYONE

Word. And that was with GRANT NOEL (nobody besides VT fans has any idea who that is) at QB. He went 4-16 in that game.

Maybe as far as individual talent goes, 01 Miami>95 Nebraska. But as far as what they did on the field, Nebraska has them beat.

my old d cordinator was on that 95 championship team and he would show us the ring and talk about it
im not a big fan of nebraska football but i think they might be slightly better than that stacked 01 miami squad
