I think the popularity was driven by the $1k+ resale on them up til a few weeks ago. Like a lot of stuff nowadays I doubt a lot of the pairs bought at retail are going onto people's feet, unfortunately.

I’m sure resell has something to do with it as always but from early pics lots of people were into them. Non-sneaker people as well.
