no. the fact that you think these are the characteristics of blacks suggest that you are a closet racist.THESE are the stereotypes that are downright offensive.Other stereotypes (enjoy rap/ r&b, plays sports, speaks in slang, wears baggy clothes etc) are the ones that most people associate with blacks. Additionally,I don't even like the terms "black" aand "white".

Black do hold the highest unemployment rate and imprisonment in the U.S though. It's a damn fact. Sorry but there is no denial . Out of 10 black men only about 1 or 2 end up being successful in life

no one says "you're unemployed? you're acting black"

Exactly. Why people try so hard to act like it doesn't exist. Well it does people. Certain traits are usually associated with certain groups of people. Face it.
yep.

Define successful....that's a extremely broad statement to say the least not mention that people live by different creeds that define success by different measures.

Well ignorant people over-rely on differences in their everyday interactions with someone of another "race". Race is not culture. If a black woman speaks in an English accent and dresses Mary Poppins why would anyone tell her she "sounds white"?

And there are many accents within the black "race"......I speak in a pseudo-long island/British/ Boston/ Nigerian accent and still get the "you sound white and proper". My accent also changes a bit depending on who I'm speaking with I sound super Nigerian when I'm with my family.
laugh.gif
It's ignorant and racist. Not every black person (Which includes Black Africans, Europeans-yes there are black Germans, Dutch, Frenchmen) etc sounds like a goon from Da Heightz. Most people who think like this have never left their block and have an extremely narrowminded view of the world we live in.

I didn't say anything about "being copied", now did I? Don't get my comments twisted with other peoples.
The stereotypes I posted are offensive? What? Baggy clothes may be the worst of the bunch.
Whatever dude. I'm done tho. I'm not about to post paragraph after paragraph about this on NT.

What's ghetto then?

That term's more ambiguous than "acting black"
From my personal experience, the words mean pretty much the same thing.

Cars with big rims, big jeans that sag to the floor (and strangely now, that bright colored, tight fitting, H&M crap), and the black version of the Happy Birthday song.

I regularly hear all of those things referred to as being black, or being ghetto.

Stevie Wonder performs the anthem that helped launch the national holiday celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

that is where the black version of
the Happy Birthday comes from

I think this goes for many races, etc. I know here in New York it's common to call out one on his "dominicaness" if you're Puerto Rican. Lol. It's of those things not exclusive to being black or white in my opinion.. it's just some cultural aspects are perpetuated more in through the media/pop culture.

"you sound black"

Like I've never heard someone say "you're acting so Chinese" or "you sound Dominican" those are "Irish people clothes" or "I don't wanna seem too Indian acting"
But when ever someone uses it as an adjective, it's always to make someone aware they need to be corrected because they're being socially undesirable at the moment.

How can you "act black?" Does Barrack Obama "act black"? Does Tiger Woods "sound black"?
Me personally I've improved as adult as far as my diction, word choice and annunciation but yet
when I meet some one Caucasian or non-African American I'm greeted with "Yo Daaaaawg" or the latest "trend" slang from the African American community.
It would be ok, but I know if I entertain the foolery when more important matters are being dicussed  I wont be expect to offer much.
But what's sad is it's not a two way street. Other groups aren't met with a pre-disposition.

When an immigrant Asian speaks fluent english with proper diction, THAT'S IT, HE SPEAKS FLUENT ENGLISH...Same for Hispanics, Same for Indians etc.
But when an African American displays distinguished intelligence and admirable repoire he's ostracized as "acting white".
And again, if a guy says "Yo Dawgg gimme dap" and you accept that dap and begin return urban sang and banter
you're MARKED as undesirable and pretty much met with ambivalent acceptance into "the group", whether occupational, educational, social, or sexual.
Like you're not allowed joke, imitate, or welcome anything  that resembles urban dysfunctional behavior, meanwhile EVERYONE around you manuever "freely"
without appearing uptight and socially aware.
OH REALLY?
