Ok fam...vulnerability time.

So I was tested for ADHD in 3rd grade and it was recommended I see a specialist for further testing so they could get an accurate diagnosis.

My fam never followed up on it.

In the present day, I'm now entering my senior year, and I struggle to maintain consistent focus and attention to detail. It only comes together when I'm under pressure. I suddenly go from I have desperately needing to finish an episode of F is for Family (check it out btw Bill Burr is comedic genius) to knocking out a 9 page paper in about 2 hours and still earning an A-.

I can't seem to make myself do focused work unless I feel under pressure.

In the absence of any formal treatment (I intend to work on that for 2016) I want to know, what are your strategies for focusing?

If anyone of you guys have been diagnosed with ADHD what have you guys done/have had to do as part of the process?

For anyone who thinks they may have it but haven't actually been tested, how have you coped with the symptoms?

my lack of focus comes from being a lazy procrastinator. when i buckle down and do the work under pressure, it stems from a strong aversion to being fired from my job. none of this has anything to do with ADHD which is diagnosed too freely imo. especially by docs that love to prescribe meds.

What you're describing just sounds like laziness and not ADHD. You don't have ADHD. Putting yourself on amphetamines won't make it better in the long run.
