This is the problem. My generation is so non-chalant and has this belief that things work themselves out. Aside from maybe 2 of my friends (my age) I can't have a serious topic with them about the state of the world. No one cares about !$@+. Everyone is so wrapped up in materialistic !$@+, twitter, Jordans etc. It's like they are asleep to the true state of the world.
If they wanted this problem could be wiped out tomorrow...but why would they do that? They would have to give up some of their power. EDIT:Haha I know how you feel.

your statement concerning our reign as the 'empire' of the modern coming to a close is probably true but everyone has known this for years......it isn't even dependent on our demise so much as the rapid progress of developing nations like china and india
but in regards to our "moral fiber" etc....lol. yeah, please name a time in our history when, morally, we were better off?
as far as policy & progression......it's a slow process as always. in the narrow scope of a short-term time-frame it can often be difficult to see exactly where we are headed.
Unfortunatly the right wing has hi-jacked American politics. And these people, make Nixon look like a God. It's like mass of bible-beatin dullards, who believe the earth is flat and universal health care is the devil are controlling the country, there is a reason to be scared.

Its that easy, huh? Just a click of a button and *PUFF* all of our problems are gone. C'mon now, get serious.![]()
this. forget about "spreading democracy" to oppressed nations. we have only a faint semblance of democracy here in regards to thefederal government. sure, politicians may write laws, but lobbyists for corporations and special interests rewrite the laws. earmarks, porks, back-roomdealings, that's all a major part of the current american political process. and what are these lobbyists about? the large majority of them exist simplyto pad their corporation's bottom line through the political system. unless we can manage to break their choke hold on policy making, i can't see anykind of real progress.Originally Posted by WaveyJonesLocker
EDIT: Democracy only works when we have multiple voices. People think they are getting a "choice" of democrat or republican, but there is very little difference in the actions they take.

The U.S. financial system is in a fragile place. As the bailouts go on- and on, and on- the U.S. and the U.K. will increasingly depend on China, Japan and other nations to buy Treasurys. But Wednesday, a U.K. auction of $2.6 billion in 40-year treasury securities garnered only $2.3 billion of bids. And in the U.S., Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner implied that the dollar could be replaced as the premier currency for world financial reserves-something recently suggested by Chinese officials. (Geithner later backtracked).
