You honestly think that if your kids are raised with that attitude, they will be accepting of gays? And not look down on them? Please.
And I'm not at all perpetuating hate. It's a disagreement on a principle. Same way I might disagree with someone on abortion while not promoting violence or ignorance against those who choose that for themselves. So I suppose you're gonna tell me its wrong for me to tell MY children that I don't agree with abortion? And yes I do believe my kids will be accepting of gays, just as I am. I don't look down on anyone regardless of race, creed, religion, or sexual preference.

very shocked by this post. I feel OP is clearly making something out of nothing. if I may, to me, any scumbag/worthless/arrogant/loud/obnoxious/non-contributing to the community and starts brawls at your local mcdonalds is an animal to me. From the fat WHITE lady who through a tantrum at the drive thru over mcnuggets or the BLACK ladies who beat a chick into a seizure at mcdonalds...� they fall into the same category.

This. I haven't finished reading the thread, but the only time I ever used "animals" is when a gang of dudes stomped a 125 lb kid to death at a party because they were bored or something. Then someone called me a racist and I was like, "lolwut, did you read the article?"

You have valid points but they don't fall into the context of thread...the OP is talking about how the word is used as a derogatory term in threads relating to African Americans (of course only by race baiters and trolls). Just because the OP lost all validity over the course of this thread (I mean seriously...) doesn't mean that there isn't a problem with this on NT. Some of the same people claiming that they cant see the racism in these thread were the same people race baiting and crying racism in the thread concerning the old man being assaulted at the train station...

This argument is pretty naive. First of all, we know that people are using it with intent to offend/annoy people in every other thread, which is trolling. Its "legitimate" use is, in that context, irrelevant because we're talking about an illegitimate use.
Second, saying, "if you act like this you're an animal and I don't care what race you are" is naive for the same reason saying "well, if you have long arms I'm gonna call you a monkey and I don't care what race you are." That's essentially demonstrating willful ignorance.
It's not unlike when Billy Packer called Allen Iverson a "tough monkey." Whatever your rationale may be, using the term in that manner is likely to cause offense and ignorance is no excuse.
No one's been banned for this yet. Now that I've made it clear that using "animals" as a troll response is unacceptable we'll be issuing warnings/suspensions moving forward.
If we were to do that, then why not let NikeTalk vote on whether or not it's acceptable to post anti-gay slurs and comments? How about posting porn and illegal content? Is it cool if we let a majority vote decide that, too? We're not trying to be all things to all people. We have a mission to live up to, and our goal is, redundantly, to provide a safe, friendly community environment. Allowing people to intentionally disrespect one another is contrary to that goal.
Honestly, at times like this I think perhaps we're too accommodating. In most other cases - including those in which you PAY money for a product or service - a policy change will be made as a one way notification and won't be open to discussion. You actually pay a subscription fee to play xbox online. Go to Microsoft's forums and "protest" your inability to draw crude penises on your team's flag in multiplayer games or use racial/heterosexist slurs while talking trash. Try explaining to them that "words are meaningless." See how far that gets you.
