Google introduced a social networking tool called Google Buzz Tuesday that allows sharing of status updates, images, and videos via a new Gmail tab called Google Buzz. The Google Buzz features will also be available on Android based phones as well as the iPhone (via a Web-based application) allowing for real-time updates to a your Google Buzz feed that can show up on a new version of Google's mobile maps.

they are trying to get more people in with gmail.
most people dont even check their email.
with this, it gives you a reason to send and receive emails.

i see what they are doing, and i think its a good idea. but i doubt it will catch on.
social networking moves with the youth, and facebook is where they are going to stay for a long time.


what googles problem is, they have too many of the same thing. first it was gmail, then it was googlw wave, then it was that Orkl or whatever %!*$ they came up with, and now this.
essentially, at the end of the day, they all do the same damn thing. its just gotten to the point where google is making this %!*$ for the poops and giggles. because honestly, aside from gmail, NOBODY is using the other stuff as a priority means of staying in contact with each other

Unless you live in Brazil. Orkut is what they use.

People switched between social networks before and there's overlaps as well.  No reason why someone wouldn't sign up for gmail JUST because they have another email account.

They aren't trying to get this up just so people send more email.   They doing this so people use more GOOGLE.  And saying social networking moves with the youth is skewed b/c the Internet moves with the youth simply because they grew up on it (but that will change obviously as ppl age).  Plus the biggest demographic growth in social media right now is within adults.  Not everyone uses social media to post drunk party photos or participate in funny (albeit useless) trending topics.  There are family members and professionals trying to connect all the time (ala niche professional social networks and of course LinkedIn).
