Anyone deal with these? Someone I know is going through it right now and Idk what to do or say and I'd like to help.

Man there's been a lot of talk about anxiety in general these past few days.

Anxiety and panic attacks should be treated differently based on severity. If the attacks are mild in nature then breathing techniques are a proven method that work. For example, breathing with your diaphragm instead of your chest and taking slow controled breaths helps subdue anxiety.

If the attacks are more severe then cognitive behavioral therapy can help. If it doesn't I would go to a specialist and ask about potential medications. I know medicine is stigmatized but some times its necessary to get things back under control. I'm not talking about addictive medicines like benzos either, I'm talking about ssri's/snri's.

You do realize ssri's/snri's are just as bad in terms of addiction and withdrawal effects as benzos right?

They're definitely not as bad as benzos but they can be bad depending on how a person comes off of them. The main thing that matters is how your doctor tapers you off. If you quit cold turkey your likely to experience intense withdrawal symptoms. Good doctors will set up a well thought out plan to ween you off the medication when your ready to minimise any withdrawal effects.

I'm not a fan of medicine myself. I believe people should try to solve problems from within themselves but medications can make a big difference for certain people and if op's friend can't control the problem after trying natural methods, I dont see the harm in trying medication.

I support medicine as an option but only as the very last option when nothing else works. As for panic attacks I doubt ssri's or snri's would be a doctor's first choice or am I wrong?

I get panic attacks every so often (couple times a year maybe). I've learned to deal with them with diaphragmatic breathing exercises I learned for cardiopulmonary patients. Works like charm, just have to be patient. Knowing you body helps out a lot too.

whatever you do, do not EVER take medication...when suicidal thoughts is a side effect, I dont reccomend it.

All you need to do is work out, wake up early and work out.

Do some cardio related things daily and you will be alright.

Thanks you guys, I appreciate all the insight, I will be sure to pass it on, might just link the thread
