Pardon the dust. The team just completed a minor software update. Unfortunately, the platform we use shows that message to everyone, which I feel is an unprofessional look.
However, our options were:
1) Don’t update the site (not an option.)
2) Shut down the site while the update occurs,
3) Leave the site up, process the update as fast as possible, and allow that stupid message to appear.
Hopefully in the future we’ll have a superior alternative, but, given this choice, I think the team made the right call.
For the duration of an upgrade, would you prefer a professional looking splash page and no forum access or an unprofessional update message and full forum access?
