I posted about this last week & they announced it officially yesterday. Sad, the young brother seemed like a good man. 18 years with BDP & an army vet.
It's not just Baltimore police Ro, it's police everywhere here in the states. We've turned them into storm troopers thank to the for profit prison system where states are fined for not keeping prisons full & draconian laws help make it easier to arrest people (specifically black & the poor) & put them away.
It really is modern day slavery...
Here in Baltimore, there has been increased violence & murder. They're talking about ramping up police. This is simply pouring gas on a bonfire.
This city needs affordable housing, jobs, better schools, after school & rec programs. They've made zero investment in the city & it's people accept for gentrification projects edging out the under privileged.
I also don't think every kid will benefit from going to "school." in a traditional sense. Change the paradigm & teach these kids vocations in technology just like a program in Philly that took expelled kids & taught them to build a biofuel race car. During the process they learned algebra, geometry, science, etc... Now these kids graduated from college (all of them).
I don't understand how a city like Singapore, a city of 5.6 mill or so has 80% of their citizens living in public housing in buildings that are architecturally interesting. There are no slums in the city, very low crime, & almost everyone has a job.
That city is proof positive it came be done.
That MFer Plank of Under Armour is building like crazy here in Baltimore but almost no affordable housing... $3500 a month for a 1 bedroom apt in one of his newest buildings.
