Basement Apartments: Yay or Nay?

I subletted my friend's basement apartment last summer in Foggy Bottom for classes/work last summer. I will say it was extremely nice with marble counter tops and a big kitchen, very spacious, its own entrance, and very cool during the summer. However, whenever it rained (happened quite frequently too), those silver millipead things would crawl into the apartment. I saw a few a week and they would often crawl up through the tub/shower drain in the bathroom. There was one night during a heavy down poor where I killed 6 in one night crawling around the walls. No more basement units for me.

i loved waking up in the summer or chilling in basement, always cold

hated waking up all congested

hated landlord or whoever was upstairs had to come downstairs to use the washer & dryer, when I was chiefing... hit them with the..

loved having a separate entrance

I had a 1 bedroom + Den ( it was a 2 bedroom joint to be honest where my friends would sleep on , watch tv etc ) kitchen, eating area and private bath.

folks upstairs moved out because landlord wanted more rent, i moved out shortly too because of same deal.

I hoop at parkland a lot when ever I'm around the way.

I went to rockville, but I know a couple heads from wheaton.

I live in the basement ... under my parents.

Only prob with basements is that they smell like a basement. (Or atleast mine does)

I OD with air freshener.

When we got all that rain in NY for like 3 days straight, I had water leaking.

Thats only happened twice in the last 5 years tho.

And unless the walls/ceiling are insulated good, your prob gonna hear everything upstairs and ppl walking around.

Craigslist is the best place to look man. Other than that, try googling apartments in your area.

Or go on facebook and update your status with " Anyone looking to share a 2 bedroom apartment, etc"

my cousin stayed in one in gtown over the summer

although it was pretty nice considering they had a private pool in georgetown
