Bro calls himself Guard the Fat, the 300 lb point guard, id call him the hungry hacker. Buddy would have 5 fouls in 5 possessions

Yeah, I’ve got holding and a couple of blocks in the first few. The only one that is maybe okay is the one where the guy goes down the middle and bounces off him. If he had that position established then that’s an offensive foul - the camera is on the ball so it’s hard to see. I’m suspicious he steps into the contact though so it’s probably a blocking foul.

He’s confident though!

lol nah that was a foul too. It doesn’t matter if he had position established, it’s not legal guarding position. If ball handler hit Fat square then yeah he’d be good. Ball handler hit him from the side which is a foul.

But correct me if I’m wrong. It’s like when you see defenders setting up to take a charge but the ball handler takes off and clips the shoulder, it’s a foul regardless if the defender was set.

I reserve my judgement - could be interesting, and it would be hard to be worse than last year.

swear i don’t get all the consternation amongst us fans over the nba all star game, tho i suppose it has gotten the league to experiment/try more so to that end i guess it is appreciable…but most all star game have been entirely forgettable but folks use the stand out moments in a few of these games as the standard which is kinda weird to me…it is a mostly irrelevant circus event, tho i can’t remember if all-star appearances are used in contract bonuses

given all the concern in the modern nba over wear & tear, injuries, playoff competitiveness, championship > everything; it’s kinda curious the association hasn’t just moved what is essentially fan service to after the playoffs such that there is maybe less of some of those concerns?

Sad thing is he probably thinks he is "First Team" or something. Nah, you ain't strapping up you are just fouling like hell.

After the playoffs would mean players that were done with their season 2 months prior would then have to suit back up and participate while they are "off."

Also, by that point people/fans are ready for a break from the NBA. If you think the effort is low in February, I don't know what you would expect to happen in June. Whatever the basketball equivalency to flag football is what you would get.

Also the timing off the All Star Weekend is essentially the first Football free weekend of the NBA season. They can't/won't give up that time.

shout out to Lala for not publicly throwing Melo business out there for his other baby while they were married….

Yet…

The most impressive thing about him during this time was the number of "Standing Dunks" he was pulling off.

true, the nfl manages to do this w/the pro bowl tho...maybe move the in season tournament to that all star weekend slot? i just don't really get all the complaining/criticism of the all star game but i do think out of all the leagues the association has proven itself to be the most responsive

swear i didn't know melo had an outside kid...what are you implying with the yet tho?

The defender being set isn't even an issue - you can be moving and take a charge - just not moving towards the player.

That example wouldn't be an offensive foul because they didn't hit the torso, and it's probably not a defensive foul either because the contact isn't enough to change anything, and mainly because the offensive player jumped into them - you can't jump to a space that someone else already occupies.

That's ignoring the no-charge area too - in that case if the defender is even touching the circle the offensive player can jump straight through them as long as they're shooting.

That's my take on it anyway - of all the things that I think are difficult to call that is probably it - what is just incidental contact, and what actually affects the game.

Yesterday's homework was the rules around fighting - hopefully not something I'll need often but I was just trying to get my head around it. It turns out in FIBA rules that it is possible for a team to get 6 technical free throws in weird circumstances - the example I saw involved a few players leaving the bench and the physio punching an active player - the penalties just piled up.

kdawg kdawg so the fat guy weighs 300+ and if I’m the ball handler and drive straight into his side as I’m driving to the hoop and I fall to the ground, is that a defensive foul?

kdawg kdawg
Not sure if this is apples and oranges but I think it applies

That's really the key - they hadn't established legal guarding position - they were moving sideways into them.

If the defender is just standing there and the offensive player bumps off them then that's probably just incidental contact - but if they turn into them then that's a defensive foul, and if the offensive player goes straight into them when they're poingint straight at them then that's clearly an offensive foul.

I saw a great video recently - but I can't find it. The best part is that almost all the good examples were of Scottie Pippen defending - you can probably picture him defending Magic Johnson the length of the court - fairly upright, not leaning in, feet apart but not too far and backing up all the way.
