Since theres quite a few Bay Area NTers. I ask you this:

At this time of the year (February to around June), do the San Jose Sharks generate any interest among sports fans?

Are more people getting into hockey there, with the amount of times they've made the playoffs the past couple of years

The Sharks are the best pro team in the Bay Area yet they remain second class citizens behind the Warriors, Giants/A's, 49ers/Raiders.

I'm sure in San Jose itself, there are a lot more Sharks fan, but in San Francisco/Oakalnd/North Bay, they are barely a blimp on the radar.

That can all change if the Sharks have a deep run in the playoffs. Time after time the Sharks are just fallen apart against physical teams so I can't say alot of people are excited. They're more worried.

I'm not a hockey guy, and as much as I'd like to support the Sharks, they don't feel like family the way the A's, Lakers and Raiders do.

I live 10 min away from San Jose, and the Sharks are definitely my hockey team but I'm just not as huge a hockey fan as I am a basketball and football fan.I always support them though either way, whether they're sucking or when they're good. They're definitely the best-run organization in the Bay Areaas of right now.

I've been to a couple Shark games throughout my life...haven't been able to attend games recently because I'm in SoCal and I go to Warrior gamesbefore Shark games.

The Bay Area Pro Sports Team Hierarchy
1. 49ers/Raiders
2. Warriors

8. Giants/Sharks

55. A's

*And to answer your question, the Sharks are not that popular even during the playoffs. There are like less than 10 people out of 1000 that watch the sharks atmy high school.

To me, there's barely any Sharks buzz around. They try to push em a little on the radio, but no one I talk to cares about them or hockey. I live in theeast bay and when I'm at work or school, no one is talking about them.

In San Jose there are of course the hot item. But outside of San Jose, they are just another team...and it doesn't help that it's hockey. I love theSharks myself, but hockey seems to be a sport that is an acquired "taste". And they do tend to break down or choke in the playoffs. Until they getover that hump, it's the same old story......

I live in San Jose, but the only people I know that actually follow hockey or the SJ Sharks for that matter are white people. Not to be racist, but they arehardly supported even in their home city. Just not a big market.

Im the idiot huh?!?!?
And don't bring up any bull %#$% about how many fans the A's have when they're good. Cuz right now they are straight trash and they ain't getno love. The Raiders/9ers/Warriors/Giants have sucked year in and year out yet they still get tons of love.

Next time you think about sayin something, don't.

Keep your little #*%%* !$$ quite.

When I lived in MA I used to go to their AHL affiliate games all the time. Wouldn't mind seeing them beat up detroit in th playoffs.

Let me slide in before an A's fan and throw out their dumb !$* argument

nobody actually pays attention to the giants games when theyre there. There all on their BBs and laptops, they can't even name their starting line ups.

With the white people comment, I agree. I mean, let's be real with ourselves, hockey fans (and players) tend to be white.

For the 2nd part, I think you're wrong. They've had respectable attendance numbers (11th this year, and 2nd last year in terms of percentage).

sharks are best in the league right now, record-wise (tied with my boys in points, but two less games played)...but i'd like to get another shot at em inthe playoffs

Sharks are my second team.... smh @ anybody in the Bay Area that ignores the Sharks... they are the only team that isn't garbage around there

Hockey in general is mostly ignored over here on the West Coast.
But I bet if the Sharks get into the Stanley Cup Finals, you'll see some bandwagon tactics.

I don't think anyone would disagree they're the best team performance-wise right now, but there just isn't that much general interestin hockey. It's a lot easier for people who only have a moderate interest in sports or who are "casual" sports fans to jump on the bandwagon ofmore popular sports teams.

thats what happened in Tampa Bay a few years ago

now they're selling season tickets for $270 with change. comes out to around $6/ game

Never checked on the Sharks before, but due to their run the past couple of years, I thought it'd be kinda sad as a bay area sports fan not to at leastknow what's going on with them.

I do think that the hype in the bay area is growing, people are starting to point at Sharks games as a fun outing and a legit thing to do.
